Na­tional gym­nasts win medals in Bu­dapest

Azer­bai­jani ath­letes won a num­ber of medals at the com­pe­ti­tion in artis­tic gym­nas­tics in Hun­gary - the Bu­dapest Cup.

The Azer­bai­jan Gym­nas­tics Fed­er­a­tion an­nounced that the coun­try’s medal hopes were pinned on 12 ath­letes.

Sar­var Aliyev took the sec­ond place in the all-around in the age cat­e­gory of 17-18, los­ing only to an opponent from Hun­gary. He also suc­cess­fully per­formed in the fi­nals of ex­er­cises on var­i­ous shells. So, in ex­er­cises on rings he won the bronze, and on par­al­lel bars - a sil­ver medal.

Javi­dan Babayev, showed the best re­sult in ex­er­cises on rings and sup­port­ing jump, tak­ing the fourth place in both fi­nals.

Sergei On­bysh, Aga­mu­rad Gahra­manov and Sa­mad Mam­madli rep­re­sented the coun­try at age cat- egory of 15-16.

On­bysh won the sil­ver in the all- around. In the fi­nals of free ex­er­cises Aga­mu­rad and Sergei took the first and sec­ond place, re­spec­tively. In ex- er­cises on par­al­lel bars, Sergei won a sil­ver medal, and bronze in ex­er­cises on the cross­bar.

The youngest Azer­bai­jani gym­nast per­form­ing at the com­pe­ti­tions was Man­sum Sa­farov. In the age cat­e­gory of 13-14, hav­ing shown the best re­sult in floor ex­er­cises, he took the fifth place.
