National gymnasts win medals in Budapest

Azerbaijan­i athletes won a number of medals at the competitio­n in artistic gymnastics in Hungary - the Budapest Cup.

The Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation announced that the country’s medal hopes were pinned on 12 athletes.

Sarvar Aliyev took the second place in the all-around in the age category of 17-18, losing only to an opponent from Hungary. He also successful­ly performed in the finals of exercises on various shells. So, in exercises on rings he won the bronze, and on parallel bars - a silver medal.

Javidan Babayev, showed the best result in exercises on rings and supporting jump, taking the fourth place in both finals.

Sergei Onbysh, Agamurad Gahramanov and Samad Mammadli represente­d the country at age cat- egory of 15-16.

Onbysh won the silver in the all- around. In the finals of free exercises Agamurad and Sergei took the first and second place, respective­ly. In ex- ercises on parallel bars, Sergei won a silver medal, and bronze in exercises on the crossbar.

The youngest Azerbaijan­i gymnast performing at the competitio­ns was Mansum Safarov. In the age category of 13-14, having shown the best result in floor exercises, he took the fifth place.
