Apresentation of the retro carriages, which were restored on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Baku Metro, was held at the Icherisheher station on November 6. President Ilham Aliyev attended the event and viewed the retro carriages. Chairman of Baku Metro Zaur Huseynov informed the head of state of the retro carriages.

The first such retro-carriages produced by the Mytishchi Machine Building Plant were called “A” type cars. These carriages, manufactured at the end of 1934, had 52 seats and 120 standing places. One of the carriages of this type was sent to Baku in 1967 to measure the subway line.

Other retro cars were “G” type carriages, the service life of these cars ended in 1983.

Manufacture of “E” type carriages was launched in 1956. The first “E” type test car was produced at the end of 1959. The carriages of this type were sent to five cities including Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Tbilisi and Baku, which received 47 carriages of this type.

Then the head of state went from the Icherisheher metro station to the Nariman Narimanov station by a retro carriage train.

After viewing the retro carriages, President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the Baku Metro staff on the occasion of the 50th jubilee and wished them new successes.

Baku Metro with 25 stations on 3 lines -Green, Red and Purple is 36.6 km in length.

The first train of Baku Metro was departed from Icherisheher station on November 6, 1967. At the time the 10-km Baku Metro has ‘Sahil’, ‘May 28’, ‘Ganjlik’ and ‘Nariman Narimanov’ stations.

Serving the residents and guests of the capital for 50 years, Baku Metro, the first subway system in the East, today is the most affordable and safest way to get around the city. In 2003 the Metro entered a new stage of development.

About 600,000 passengers daily use the train network in Baku, traveling on the underground, to get around the capital, without ever thinking too much about how the system works.

But hundreds of meters below the surface, a change is coming - a change that will reshape the transport system.

By 2030 it is planned to expand the infrastructure of Baku Metro and create a giant underground transport network. Then, Baku will have a train network consisting of five lines, including three available and two additional, as well as 76 stations and underground network with a length of 119 kilometers.
