The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) was held in Strasbourg, France, on January 22-26. Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE, chairman of the parliamentary committee on international and interparliamentary relations Samad Seyidov says that the PACE session was fruitful from the point of view of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.

Seyidov recalled that election was held at that session, and trust was again demonstrated to Azerbaijan. Thus, members of the Azerbaijani delegation were elected to the key posts in PACE. “This also demonstrates the growth of Azerbaijan’s international authority,” he said in his interview with Trend.

During the session, the vicepresident of the PACE was elected, and member of the Azerbaijani delegation Sevinj Fataliyeva was elected chairman of the subcommittee on the European Social Charter of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development.

Noting that the members of the Azerbaijani delegation took an active part in the session, Seyidov reminded that the discussions of its members Sevinj Fataliyeva and Vusal Huseynov dedicated to “Protection of children affected during armed conflicts,”“Improvement of the international rules against the death penalty and trade in goods used during torture” were fruitfully held.

Head of the delegation added that the new composition of the PACE subcommittee on conflicts became positive for Azerbaijan: “The reformation of the subcommittee will facilitate the holding of broader discussions on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in PACE, which is also very positive for Azerbaijan.”

Touching upon Armenian President’s speech in PACE, Seyidov stressed that Sargsyan again tried to deceive the world community.

“Sargsyan again showed his true colors and, voicing false information, tried to deceive the world community, but received the necessary response from me,” Seyidov said. “I reminded him of the Khojaly genocide, brought to his attention that Armenia does not comply with the resolutions of international organizations, and, of course, Sargsyan could not answer these questions.”

In conclusion, Seyidov noted that at the PACE session, the Azerbaijani delegation supported Turkey’s antiterrorist Operation Olive Branch in Syria.
