Every military conflict in the world has its own milestones, and the latest milestone in the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict happened in early April 2016. Two years passes since the Azerbaijani Army’s victory in the April clashes.
This story started on the night of April 2, 2016, when all the frontier positions of Azerbaijan were subjected to heavy fire of large-caliber weapons, mortars and grenade launchers by the Armenian army. The Armenian provocation led to six Azerbaijani civilians being killed, including two children, and 26 people being injured. Numerous public and private facilities were severely damaged, while 232 houses, 99 power transmission line poles, three substations, schools, mosques and other facilities were destroyed.
Azerbaijani Armed Forces, which were obliged to suppress the Armenian attack and ensure safety of the civilian population, took urgent response measures in the AghdaraTartar-Agdam and Khojavand-Fuzuli directions.
The Azerbaijani Army came out the undeniable winner from the April battles, since the Azerbaijani servicemen liberated the hills around the Talish village, the Seysulan settlement, took over Lele Tepe strategic height located in the direction of Fuzuli region, and ensured control over the roads in the Aghdara-Madagiz direction.
During the clashes, as many as 320 Armenian servicemen were killed, more than 500 Armenian soldiers were injured, 30 enemy tanks and other armored vehicles, as well as more than 25 artillery pieces were destroyed.
Military operations on the line of contact between the Azerbaijani and Armenian armies were stopped on April 5 with mutual consent of the sides.
Thus, the Armenian aggressive provocation on the frontline two years ago led to the complete defeat of the Armenian army itself, while the Azerbaijani Armed Forces managed to liberate over 2,000 hectares of Azerbaijani lands from the Armenian occupation.
The April battles showed once again the power of the Azerbaijani Army, which proved being the most powerful army in the South Caucasus region and one of the strongest among the world’s armies.
The skills and combat readiness of the Azerbaijani Army, equipped with modern military machinery, are growing year by year, as the country’s Armed Forces regularly conduct military exercises. The army building process in Azerbaijan is progressing as well. Thus, it was obvious that the Armenian army, where the constant chaos is reigning, would not be able to achieve anything in the April clashes.
Today, the Azerbaijani servicemen who fought in the April battles against the enemy are remembering those four days, which once again showed the power and the indomitable spirit of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
“One of the high-ranking officers told us that we must counterattack another provocation of the enemy, and we rushed into the battle under his command. It was April 1-2 night, and we started to fight in no time. We were all filled with the desire to win, we fought with the unwavering faith that the victory will be ours!” says Major Rashad Israfilov, who participated in the triumphal April battles.
Captain Shamil Aliyev, in turn, notes: "Each of our soldiers, officers was motivated by a high morale, everyone fought with the faith in victory. We proved to the enemy that they will never be able to fight as selflessly as we, because we fought for the liberation of our lands."
“First tanks went into battle, and then we. The enemy was terrified of the roar of our “iron horses”. The enemy soldiers fled in panic from the battlefield, throwing their weapons,” says Major Faig Gasimov.
Thanks to the liberation of lands in the April battles, many Azerbaijanis got the opportunity to return in their native village of Jojug Marjanli in Jabrayil region. As many as 150 private houses, a school, mosque, electric substation, hydrometeorological station, highway and other relevant infrastructure were constructed in the village.
Azerbaijani Army’s victory in the battles was only the beginning of the Great Return of the Azerbaijani people to their native lands that Armenia has been occupying for more than 25 years. Life has returned in Jojug Marjanli, and the same will happen to every Azerbaijani settlement currently occupied by the enemy.
