Leyla Aliyeva’s works presented in exposition of world-renown decorator
The personal exhibition of one of the world's best decorators Kirill Istomin “LivingwithArt” has opened in the Baku Port Mall as part of Baku Shopping Festival.
The exhibition is inspired by the works of Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
The event was attended by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, public figures, representatives of culture and science, and diplomatic missions.
In her speech, Hijran Huseynova noted that large-scale projects implemented under the leadership of Mehriban Aliyeva cover healthcare, culture, social, environmental, sports and other spheres.
“Activity held upon the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva for the protection of women’s rights should be especially noted. Mehriban Aliyeva played an exceptional role in the adoption of the “Law on Domestic Violence” aimed at protecting women and children from domestic violence, introducing changes to the Family Code in connection with increasing the marriage age for girls to 18,” she added.
Speaking at the event, Huseynova noted that Azerbaijan targets ensuring gender equality and the empowerment of girls and women in all spheres.
She went on to say that by creating the first democratic republic in the Muslim East and in the Turkic world, the Azerbaijani people once again confirmed their traditions of statehood.
“Thanks to the policy, the foundations of which were laid by the national leader Heydar Aliyev and further strengthened by President Ilham Aliyev, our country is developing democratic state building as a worthy successor to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Against the backdrop of this, the issue of protecting women’s rights also remains relevant. If, on one hand, it is related to the rich traditions based on the centuries-old history in the field of women’s activity, on the other hand, it comes from the state policy pursued in relation to women,” Huseynova said
She said that in 1918, the Azerbaijani women received the right to elect and be elected for the first time in the Muslim East.
“This is while at that time, the principle of gender equality in the electoral sphere wasn’t resolved not only in the Muslim East, but even in the U.S. and most European countries,” Huseynova concluded.
The event brings together state and government officials, MPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, NGO representatives, public and political figures, representatives from all regions of the country.
The forum aims to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the recognition of the equal rights of all citizens, especially the rights for women to vote during the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, established on May 28, 1918, as well as to discuss achievements gained in the field of protection of women's rights in the last 100 years and identify the challenges ahead.
Panel meetings entitled “Women and food safety in ecology”, “100th Anniversary of Equality: Achievements and Modernity of History”, “Women in the Economy: New Opportunities and Challenges”, “Women and ICT: Reality and Perspectives” were held within the framework of the forum. The final resolution was adopted at the end of the forum.
