Germany strives for further cooperation with Azerbaijan
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by Thomas Bareiss, Secretary of State at the Federal Economic and Energy Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The head of state highly appreciated German delegation’s visit to Azerbaijan as a good indicator of cooperation and partnership between Azerbaijan and Germany and expressed satisfaction with the mutual interest of two countries and business circles in expanding relations.
President Ilham Aliyev recalled the visit of the German Federal Chancellor, Angela Merkel, to Azerbaijan and stressed that very fruitful meetings were held during the visit.
The head of state expressed confidence that the visit of the delegation headed by Thomas Bareiss to Azerbaijan will contribute to the continuation of the cooperation process.
Stressing that German companies have been successfully operating in Azerbaijan for many years, President Aliyev said he was confident that the partnership and cooperation between the two countries would expand and strengthen.
Thomas Bareiss thanked the head of state for the reception on behalf of the delegation and conveyed to the Azerbaijani President greetings of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, noting that this visit is a continuation of the federal chancellor’s visit to Azerbaijan.
Noting that Thomas Bareiss met with Angela Merkel before the trip, Ms Chancellor was very pleased with the continuation of bilateral economic relations with Azerbaijan.
Thomas Bareiss said that Azerbaijan and Germany have a common history and stressed the 200th anniversary of the creation of German settlements in the South Caucasus.
He added that President Ilham Aliyev made a great contribution to this important event. Bareiss noted that the delegation includes representatives from various spheres, stating that they are true friends of Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence that this visit will contribute to the further expansion of Azerbaijani-German cooperation.
The sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including energy, petrochemical, non-oil sector, education, vocational education and other fields. Parties noted that German companies are interested in industrial zones in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude for the greetings of Angela Merkel and asked to convey his greetings to the Federal Chancellor of Germany.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Germany were established on February 20, 1992. 2008 was declared the Year of Azerbaijan in Germany. In this regard, a delegation of 120 people headed by the Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism visited Germany. Cultural events continued in Berlin for a week.
During the year, Azerbaijani culture was promoted in a number of cities such as Munich, Hamburg, Mainz, Stuttgart and other major German cities. As part of the Year of Azerbaijan in Germany, from 12 June to 15 July 2008, an exhibition of contemporary Azerbaijani art was held in the Dresden Gallery, where works of famous Azerbaijani artists were displayed.
Germany is a country with sufficient political prestige and a strong economy among the countries of Europe and the world. From this point of view, the development of economic, political and cultural ties with Germany has always been of interest to Azerbaijan.
In turn, Azerbaijan as an oil and gas country, and acts as one of the important partners for Germany in international projects.
