Ten­sion Es­ca­lates Among Le­banese TV Sta­tions


Af­ter a lot of give and take be­tween prom­i­nent TV sta­tions MTV and LBCI, ini­tially trig­gered by peo­ple weigh­ing their com­edy talk shows ‘Hayda Hakeh’ (pre­sented by co­me­dian Adel Karam) and ‘La Hon w Bass’ (pre­sented by co­me­dian Hisham Had­dad) against each other in terms of rat­ings, the ten­sion es­ca­lated be­tween the two af­ter MTV pub­lished an ar­ti­cle bash­ing an­other LBC pro­gram, dat­ing show ‘Take me Out’ for al­legedly de­grad­ing the im­age of Le­banese women and shared it to its Face­book page. This ini­ti­ated a heated na­tion­wide In­ter­net de­bate be­tween fans of the show and dis­ap­prov­ing view­ers on so­cial me­dia, spark­ing a num­ber of ar­ti­cles and blog posts along the way. The mat­ter took a more se­ri­ous turn with Le­banese In­for­ma­tion Min­is­ter call­ing out “im­moral ma­te­rial” on lo­cal TV. LBCI owner Pierre Da­her sub­se­quently told Le­banese English-
