Nadine Labaki’s Capharnaüm Makes Strong Debut in Cinemas and Online
After receiving the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May, Lebanese director Nadine Labaki’s poignant film Capharnaüm debuted in Lebanese cinemas on September 20, receiving tons of praise on social media. Members of the audience and critics alike took time to share their impressions about the film and express their admiration of Labaki’s work. The film, which follow’s 12-year-old Zein’s struggle for survival under the most unfavorable conditions a child can face within the Lebanese community, was unanimously selected as Lebanon’s entry for the upcoming foreign-language Oscar race following high critical acclaim.
