NEW HEAD OF INSTAGRAM APPOINTED AMID FOUNDERS’ RESIGNATION
Following Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger’s resignation amid rising tensions with CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook appointed Instagram VP of Product Adam Mosseri as the new head of the photo-sharing platform. “We are thrilled to hand over the reins to a product leader with a strong design background and a focus on craft and simplicity — as well as a deep understanding of the importance of community,” founders wrote on Instagram’s official Info Center. “These are the values and principles that have been essential to us at Instagram since the day we started, and we’re excited for Adam to carry them forward.” The exit of Instagram’s founders has spread quite a few doubts around the future of the platform, fueled by a fear that Facebook may compromise the principles of the app in a way to data-mine its users for the benefit of advertisers. “Since we announced our departure, many people have asked us what we hope for the future of Instagram. To us, the most important thing is keeping our community — all of you — front and center in all that Instagram does,” founders explained. “We believe that Adam will hold true to these values and that Instagram will continue to thrive.” We’ll have to wait and see!
