Jail inmates receive Dhs5.73 million in aid

DUBAI: Police and its generous partners reached out to 5,252 inmates and their insolvent families with Dhs 5.734 million worth of humanitari­an ASSISTANCE, SAID A SENIOR OF ICE ON FRIDAY.

“The assistance contribute­d to improvING Inmates’ living Conditions,” stressed the Director General of Dubai Police Department of Punitive and Correction­al Institutio­ns Brigadier Ali Mohammad Al Shamali.

“It also solved their internal and external problems AND various inancial Crises As well as helping their families by paying for house rental fees and children’s educationa­l Expenses For THE UNDERPRIVI­LEGED.”

He said that contributi­ons from partners and benefactor­s helped release inmates stranded BEHIND Bars By ines AND DEBTS they could not afford. They returned home with another opportunit­y to start a new life.

“The assistance, activities and internal programs and celebratio­ns change the concept that a prison is place of punishment, to a place of reform and guidance and psychologi­cal and social rehabilita­tion.

“Inmates are provided with a second chance to change their lives and the lives of THEIR FAMILIES,” HE EXPLAINED, ADDING that this is done in coordinati­on with community, civil and charitable organisati­ons.

“Financial and in-kind assistance from the inmates’ bank account amounted to DHS2,425,055 AND BENEITED 2,997 Inmates last year while police partners arranged DHS3,309,389 that BENEITED 2,255.”

The head of the correction­al institutio­ns’ Humanitari­an Care Department Lt. HABIB Husain Al Zarouni noted THE most important aid that helped release inmates and solve debts amounting to Dhs2,773,854. “Also, another sum of Dhs1, 198,000 was spent on covering diya (blood money) for penniless convicts. On the other hand, some Dhs269,000 was provided to inmates’ FAMILIES,” Al Zarouni EXPLAINED.

Brigadier Al Shamali revealed the Humanitari­an Care Department distribute­d Dhs5,734,444 worth of cash and in-kind assistance to inmates and their families in 2017 compared to Dhs3,315,442 in 2016.

The rest of the money was spent on living and medical needs and necessitie­s among others including the payment of monthly salaries to the destitute and MEDICAL Beneits such As WHEELCHAIR­S and eyewear.

Another sum helped cover birth costs For several Inmates, Issue BIRTH CERTIICATE­S for their children, renting for the needy, paying the children’s school fees, clothing, personal hygiene items and other assistance.

The Humanitari­an Care Department made charitable and humanitari­an initiative­s BENEITING All CATEGORIES of prisoners such As “THE SCHOOLBAG” INITIATIVE WHICH provides all school supplies for the children of prisoners.
