4 Saudi officers shot dead at checkpoint

RIYADH: Four SAUDI oficers were shot dead and four others wounded on Thursday when their checkpoint came under gunfire in southern Asir province, state media said citing the interior ministry.

THREE oficers were Instantly killed when the outpost came under attack, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, without specifying who was behind it.

“Security oficials HAVE SUCCEEDED In identifyin­g a number of suspects involved in the crime and arrested two of them, both Saudi nationals,” SPA said.

“In the interest of the investigat­ion, their names cannot be revealed.”

A THIRD SAUDI suspect opened ire as he tried to escape, killing another oficer AND wounding Four others, SPA added.

Separately, Saudi air defences INTERCEPTE­D A “BALLISTIC missile” ired by Yemeni rebels at the kingdom’s southern coastal city of Jizan, the SaudiLED Coalition IGHTING THE rebels SAID.

It was the latest in a series of such attacks.

“Saudi air defences intercepte­d a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militias targeting Jizan,” the coalition said in a statement.

The Houthis, in a statement on their news outlet Al Masirah, claimed that they ired A “BADR 1” BALLISTIC missile AND said it struck Jizan Regional Airport.

Media was unable to reach the airport for comment, but open-source LIGHT Informatio­n APPEARED to show lights Arriving AND DEPARTING on time.
