Tremendous turnout at Unified Sports Women’s Day

ABU DHABI: The Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) and Special Olympics UAE collaborat­ed recently to bring the Uniied Sports Women’s Day to the wider community of the capital, as the event celebrated sport for ladies of all ages and ability.

Five hundred ladies gathered at the Mubadala Arena on Saturday, as they took part in friendly competitio­n in sports including table tennis, football, basketball, fitness and bocce. This event has given those in attendance the encouragem­ent and opportunit­y to reach their potential and know that they can do so with the support of FMBA.

Speaking about the event, sheik ha Fatima Bint Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) and Chairwoman of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Ladies Clubs, said: “After the resounding success of yesterday’s Unified Sports Women’s Day, I would like to thank Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperso­n of the Family Developmen­t Foundation, Chairwoman of Motherhood and Childhood Supreme Council, Mother of the Nation, for her infinite guidance and support as we continue to emphasize the importance of sports as a healthy and ideal lifestyle, no matter your age or sporting ability.”

“The event was an integratio­n of friendly competitio­n, inclusion and unificatio­n of the wider community and a celebratio­n of girls and women of different abilities and people of determinat­ion. This was also thanks to the dedication of the Special Olympics UAE team, and we would like to take this opportunit­y to thank them for their support.”

Sheikha Fatima concluded by saying: “The Unified Sports Women’s Day is just one of many events that FBMA proudly puts on for the ladies of the UAE, as we endeavour to offer world-class facilities and coaching for all sporting abilities, helping ladies of all walks of life reach their potential as athletes and as women of the UAE.”

Chair of the Special Olympics UAE Board, Shamma Al Mazrouei, said: “On this day and throughout the month of October, we celebrate Unified Sports Women’s Day, which combines sports women of the People of Determinat­ion category and other women.”
