ABU DHABI: Al Ain is preparing to host jiu-jitsu professionals from over 45 countries in the 5th edition of the Al Ain International Jiu-jitsu Championship, which will be held on Oct.26-27 at Al Ain Club.
During the first day, the matches will start at 2pm and the day will be dedicated to No Gi male category. The second day is dedicated to Gi male and female categories competitions, starting at 11am. The high level of international participation in this weekend’s competition highlights the success of previous editions, by attracting participants from all nationalities and belt categories to participate under the supervision of international referees.
Registrations were closed on Oct.20, due to the large number of registrations from players of all categories. The Championship provides participants with a chance to network with international jiujitsu professionals. This will boost the abilities and experiences of Emirati players, and enhance their skills to become more developed fighters.
The Championship is one of the biggest local events on the 2018-19 season calendar. It is designed to develop the skills of the Emirati players and provide them with a chance to practice the techniques needed in the coming international championships.
For his part, Mansour Al Dhahiri, Board Member of UAEJJF, said: “We are proud that this international Championship has attracted jiu-jitsu stars from over 45 countries. This Championship is a vital step in promoting the skills of Emirati athletes and highlights the development of their performances from one championship to another. We are looking forward to seeing what the professionals will add to this Championship and wish them all the best.”
Adding further, Dhahiri said: “We are happy to see a large participation in this local jiu-jitsu championship; especially in Al Ain. This highlights the increased interest in jiu-jitsu as a sport, from both players and spectators, thanks to the UAEJJF efforts in promoting the game across the wider community.”
