Campaign launched to back Emirati fishermen
DUBAI: Dubai Government Workshop ( DGW), in cooperation with the Dubai Fishermen Cooperative Association (DFCA), successfully organised a “Fishing Equipment Recycling” campaign aimed at supporting local Emirati fishermen and to also attract citizens to work in the fishing sector. The initiative was held in the presence of Fahad Ahmed Al Raeesi, CEO of DGW and Omair Bin Omair Al Rumaithi, Chairman, DFCA. During the campaign, iron filings and wood shavings were recycled to be used in the manufacture of fishing equipment.
Fahad Ahmed Al Raeesi, said, “This campaign falls in line with DGW’S continuing commitment to its corporate social responsibility (CSR). Through this initiative, the DGW looks towards promoting the culture of traditional crafts and professions related to the state’s heritage and history, as well as to support local Emirati fishermen.”
Al Raeesi emphasised on the importance of supporting the Emirati fishermen and helping promote their profession. He also underscored the need to preserve the state’s resources through optimal and efficient utilisation.
Al Raeesi also stressed on the important roles that both the public and private sectors play in the move to foster more environmental awareness, which also includes efforts to establish a culture of sustainable development and to implement the goals set forth in the national agenda.
Moreover, DGW continues to exert its efforts to promote innovation, creativity and excellence across all areas of government work by forging strategic partnerships and enhancing social and volunteer activities, including awareness campaigns, to better serve the interests of community members.
Injanuary,sheikhhamdanbinzayedalnahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency-abu Dhabi, highlighted the keenness of the UAE’S leadership to support the fishing profession, noting its major importance to food security, according to WAM.
He made this statement while receiving a group of fishermen from Abu Dhabi at the Al Nakhel Palace, in the presence of Major General Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-chief of the Abu Dhabi Police, and Major General Pilot Ali Mohammad Musleh Al Ahbabi, Head of Protection of Vital Facilities and Coasts.
