50 mosques to be opened in Sharjah in 2020

SHARJAH: Abdullah Bin Yarouf Al-sabousi, Director of the Department of Islamic Affairs- Sharjah, said during a phone call to the “Direct Line” radio programme that is broadcast by Sharjah Radio, that Sharjah has 2,723 mosques, which have been reopened to receive worshipper­s.

“Since January to date, we have opened 17 mosques, and 6 mosques before it, and during this month, we are going to open 4 mosques in Hoshi area, as we have been directed by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah not only to build mosques, but to rebuild those that need to be done,” he added.

He also pointed out that there are 23 mosques in Al Rahmaniya suburb, and during this year, around 50 mosques would be opened in separate areas of the Emirate of Sharjah, including Al Nahda, Al Nasiriyah, Al Hamriyah, Hoshi, Rahmaniyah, Al Siyouh, Al Hisn and others.

“We thank His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his unlimited support to us. We also thank those who joined forces with us, and without them, we would not have reached where we are now,” he added.

SHARJAH EXPO CENTRE: The Expo Centre Sharjah, which was turned into a field hospital for COVID-19 patients, has been closed on Thursday, ater recovery of the last patient, an Indian, who was being quarantine­d at the centre. The last patient let the centre amid a farewell ceremony involving the medical and nursing cadres of the centre.

They celebrated triumphing over this virus, as the centre witnessed recovery of 6,000 patients from COVID-19. The 2,000-bed-sharjah Field Hospital was managed by 63 doctors and 170 nurses, bringing the total team to 233 doctors and nurses, along with administra­tive cadres that worked as a beehive day and night.

ZAKAT FUND: The Zakat Fund Disburseme­nt Commitee approved the disburseme­nt of Dhs92.1 million for the first half of 2020, benefiting 10,376 people eligible for Zakat, as part of 20 projects.

Abdullah Aqeeda Al Muhairi, Secretary-general of the Zakat Fund and Chairman of the Disburseme­nt Commitee, said that the commitee held 122 meetings in the first part of 2020 totalling 166 hours while in the first quarter of 2020, it held 38 meetings at the fund’s headquarte­rs, as well as 45 remote meetings. The fund always aims to add new categories of people eligible for Zakat money and its officials are keen to improve its projects and achieve timely disburseme­nt, through the weekly meetings of the commitee, Al Muhairi stressed.

Thosebenef­itingfromt­hefund’sprojectsi­nclude low-income people, new Muslims, indebted people, orphans, patients, students, unemployed people, people of determinat­ion and people in need of urgent aid, he said in conclusion.
