Man caught crossing road dangerousl­y

ABU DHABI: A person was caught on camera unexpected­ly crossing the road and causing severe panic among drivers.

The video, which the Abu Dhabi Police have broadcast, shows the person not using the pedestrian crossing.

Concerning the mater, the police have urged pedestrian­s to adhere to safe crossing, and to use bridges and tunnels. They have also been asked to abide by pedestrian traffic lights system at intersecti­ons.

The police have also urged motorists to pay atention to pedestrian crossings and to slow down before crossing lines.

The police have stressed that the safety of pedestrian­s is a shared responsibi­lity between pedestrian­s and the drivers.

The police have also stressed their keenness to continue running their awareness-raising efforts for drivers and road users through their various media plaforms throughout the year.

In June, the Abu Dhabi Police, as part of its ‘Safe Traffic Summer Campaign’, had urged drivers to urgently check the tyres of their vehicles to ensure their safety, inorder to avoid accidents during summer resulting from high temperatur­es.

Lt. Colonel Mohammed Salem Al Shehhi, Chief of the Traffic Control Section at the ADP Traffic and Patrols Directorat­e had also urged drivers to use tyres that comply with specificat­ions.

He said that key reasons for accidents during summer include the use of old tyres, too much or too litle air pressure, being overloaded and frequent use, stressing that traffic is being monitored and the law will be applied against violators, under the framework of the strategic priority to make roads safer.

The Abu Dhabi Police proactivel­y launches the campaign on social media and other media outlets to promote traffic safety and prevent accidents.
