ERC gives 16 tonnes of food aid to displaced Yemenis
Locals in Red Sea Coast express their appreciation to the UAE for the humanitarian support that has been reaching the displaced and needy every 21 days for the past four years
The UAE continues to provide food assistance in Yemen as part of its humanitarian mission to alleviate the burden of residents living in dire conditions.
The UAE’S humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, distributed 16 tonnes of food aid to 1,200 families in the Al Alili camp in the Al Khokha district of Yemen’s Hodeidah province, as part of the second phase of relief efforts in 2020.
Locals expressed their appreciation to the UAE and the ERC for the humanitarian support that has been reaching the displaced and needy on a periodical basis, every 21 days, for the past four years.
Separately, the UAE, represented by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, continued its relief and humanitarian work in Hadramaut Governorate, as part of its efforts to ease the suffering of Yemenis and enable their lives to return to normal.
An ERC team distributed 500 food parcels containing a total of 21.4 tonnes of food aid, which benefited 2,500 members of needy families in Tabala and Zaghfa in Ash Shihr District.
The beneficiaries thanked the UAE’S leadership, government and people for helping them overcome their dire conditions and for the continued relief efforts provided to Hadramaut’s residents.
Since the start of 2020, 31,910 food parcels have been distributed to poor families in Hadramaut, weighing over 2483 tonnes and benefiting 150,550 people.
The UAE is continuing to provide free medical services to the residents of remote villages inhadramaut Governorate, through mobile clinics operated by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, and as part of the country’s humanitarian role in Yemen.
Defying the various obstacles and difficulties preventing access to Yemen’s remote areas, members of an Emirati field team performed medical check-ups on 105 patients in rural Mukalla and provided them with free healthcare services and treatment.
The team also offered consultations and health instructions and distributed educational brochures.
Beneficiaries appreciated the diagnostic and treatment services and expressed their happiness at the visit. The ERC’S mobile clinic project aims to ease the burdens on residents of remote areas lacking hospitals and health centres.
Separately, Sharjah Charity International, SCI, on Thursday sent an aircrat loaded with over 20 tonnes of relief aid, from Sharjah International Airport to Sudan to rescue people affected by floods.
The launch of the aircrat is part of the campaign launched upon the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The relief aid, which included food, clothes, blankets, tents and medicines, is part of the first phase of the campaign, which aims to rescue people affected by the floods that hit many areas of Sudan and caused significant destruction, leaving many dead and homeless and damaging houses and services facilities.
An SCI delegation also travelled to Sudan, led by Mohammed Hamdan Al Zari, Director of Projects and Guarantees Department at SCI, and including Ali Mohammed Al Rashidi, Director of Public Relations and Media Administration, to monitor the distribution of the aid, submit urgent reports about the situation in the country, and assess the destruction.
Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the SCI, said that in implementation to the directives of Sheikh Sultan, a relief campaign was organised to help the Sudanese people, in line with the UAE’S approach and the noble values of its citizens and residents, as well as their generosity through their support for humanitarian campaigns.
He also noted that the first phase of the campaign will distribute relief aid to 10,000 people, under the supervision of the UAE Embassy in Sudan and through the SCI office in Khartoum.
Al Qasimi thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for facilitating the travel procedures of the SCI delegation, as well as the administration of Sharjah International Airport while praising the role of the Sharjah Cooperative Society in providing relief materials.
