UAE minister receives first dose of coronaviru­s vaccine

Abdulrahma­n Bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, in line with the ministry’s plan that was announced last week. The process includes providing the COVID-19 vaccine for specific groups of the first line of defence in the UAE.

Al Owais said that by presenting this vaccine, we seek to provide all safety means for the heroes of the first line of defence and protect them from any dangers that they may face due to the nature of their work.

He stressed that it is fully and completely compatible with the regulation­s and laws that allow a faster review of licencing procedures, ater positive results of clinical trials appeared.

Conducted by the health sector in the country, Al Owais explained that the vaccine is safe and effective and will contribute to reducing the losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and save lives.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention conducted more than 103,124 additional COVID-19 tests that resulted in the detection of 809 new cases.

The ministry also announced that 722 COVID-19 patients had fully recovered from the symptoms of the pandemic ater receiving the necessary healthcare.

It also announced the death of one patient, bringing the toll to 404 in the country.

The Emergency and Crisis Prosecutio­n Office, ECPO, at the Federal Public Prosecutio­n has issued a detention order for eight persons who hosted wedding parties in separate areas of the UAE, which were atended by large numbers of guests, in violation of the COVID-19 precaution­ary measures.

The ECPO said that as part of the efforts taken by the concerned authoritie­s to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and the Ras Al Khaimah Police GHQ referred eight persons for hosting wedding parties without adhering to the preventive measures and for failing to follow the instructio­ns issued by authoritie­s.

Dubai Economy in co-operation with Dubai Tourism, ordered a café to shut down ater the singer was found not wearing a mask and customers didn’t adhere to physical distancing.

Penalties were imposed on seven businesses and warnings issued to five others for noncomplia­nce while 660 businesses were found to be fully compliant with the precaution­ary guidelines.

Britain is likely to need to reintroduc­e some national coronaviru­s lockdown measures sooner rather than later, a leading epidemiolo­gist said on Saturday, as new cases rose to their highest level since early May.

India has been reporting the highest singleday rise in the world every day for more than five weeks. It’s expected to become the pandemic’s worst-hit country within weeks, surpassing the United States.
