The ECPO said that as part of the efforts taken by the concerned authorities to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and the Ras Al Khaimah Police GHQ referred eight persons for hosting wedding parties without adhering to the preventive measures and for failing to follow the instructions issued by authorities referred eight persons.

It added that legal action was taken against the eight and they were detained pending investigations.

The ECPO urged the public to abide by all precautionary measures, as well as laws and regulations issued by the government authorities, to avoid legal action.

Under the federal decree, Law No. 2 of 2011 in respect of the establishment of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and its amendments, failing to adhere to precautionary measures is punishable by imprisonment of not more than six months and a fine of not less than Dhs100,000 or by any one of them.

The ECPO stated that it would initiate legal action against those who did not adhere to the precautionary measures, to safeguard the health of the UAE community and in support of the government efforts to curb the health and economic impact of this pandemic.

Recently, an Emirati family in Ras Al Khaimah set a precautionary condition for those invited to atend the daughter’s wedding in coronavirus time.

The wedding was held at the bride’s home in the Maamoura region in Ras Al-khaimah, on Friday night. The guests were asked to undergo a COVID-19 test and to present the negative result of the test before entering the house.

The family, instead of the traditional wedding cards, asked for a COVID-19 negative certificate.

This was done for the safety of the guests and was in line with the directives of the wise leadership of the UAE.

The authorities have urged all residents to follow the precautionary measures set by the Ministry of Health, including social distancing, and avoid large gatherings, and wearing masks.

Dr Jumaa Hassan Al-mulla Al-mansoori, the father of the bride, told Gulf Today, “The preventive measures set for the wedding are to preserve the safety of guests and society in general, and in compliance with the orders of the government.”
