Dubai closes, fines sports facilities for rules’ breach

-

Teams from Dubai Sports Council ( DSC) and Dubai Economy have taken action against nine facilities for violating COVID-19 precautionary measures and safety guidelines following intensified inspections of sports clubs, academies, and sports and fitness centres.

The DSC and Dubai Economy teams, who visited 124 sports facilities and five sports events for inspection between Sept.15 and Sept.19 to ensure they comply with all safety protocols, have also issued 35 reprimands.

Three of the censured facilities — a rented playground, a swimming pool at a sports club and a sports academy — have been shut down until they comply with all COVID-19 precautionary measures and safety guidelines, while six other facilities have been issued monetary fines.

The closures and fines have been imposed for a range of violations, including crowding and failure to maintain safe distancing; gatherings in waiting areas, which are barred under COVID-19 protocols; non-compliance with the face mask rule; and failure to check temperature of all visitors and staff.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention announced on Sunday that it conducted 97,251 additional COVID-19 tests and detected 674 new coronavirus cases.

Ministry also noted an additional 761 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19.

The Ministry added that no Covid-19-related deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

The Dubai Police have arrested an Arab actress (M.H) for organising two birthday parties at two different restaurants for a number of guests in a closed place in violation of the resolution No. 38 of 2020 issued by the Attorney General of the United Arab Emirates on enforcement of penalties for violations following Cabinet Resolution No.17 of 2020 to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of the General Department of Criminal Investigations at Dubai Police, confirmed that they arrested the violator when she posted a video in her Snapchat account of the crowded party where she and her guests have disregarded the social distancing and wearing masks rules.

India has registered 92,605 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours and is expected to surpass the United States as the pandemic’s worst-hit country within weeks.

The Health Ministry on Sunday also reported 1,133 additional deaths for a total of 86,752. Sunday’s surge raised the country’s virus tally to over 5.4 million.

India, however, also has the highest number of recovered patients in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Britain’s government will fine people who refuse an order to self-isolate up to £10,000 ($13,000) as the country sees a sharp surge in coronavirus infections.

The new rule obliges people to self-isolate if they test positive for the coronavirus or are traced as a close contact. The rule comes into effect on Sept.28.

The government will help those on lower incomes who face a loss of earnings as a result of self-isolating with a one-time support payment of £500 ($633).

The latest figures show that new daily coronavirus cases for Britain have risen to 4,422, the highest since early May. An official estimate also shows that new infections and hospital admissions are doubling every seven to eight days in the UK.

Nearly a million Madrid residents were bracing on Sunday for a partial lockdown with several hundred marching in protest as Spanish authorities seek to put a brake on a second wave of COVID-19.

The restrictions, which take effect Monday for two weeks, affect 850,000 people living mainly in densely-populated, low-income neighbourhoods in the south - or 13 per cent of the 6.6 million people living in and around the capital.

Like many countries in Europe, Spain is batling a coronavirus surge and, once again, Madrid is the worst-hit region.

The Italian health ministry reported another 1,638 new cases of coronavirus and 24 deaths.

The deaths brought Italy’s official coronavirus toll to 35,692, second highest in Europe ater Britain.

The health ministry says the new cases were based on a record 103,223 tests. While countries such as Germany have been processing more than double that number in recent days, Italy has been limited at around 100,000 tests.

UAE announces 674 new cases, 761 recoveries; celebrity held for flouting precautionary measures; Britain’s quarantine breakers to face $13,000 fine.
