Police arrest man for driving at 200 km/hr

SHARJAH: The Eastern Region Police Department of Sharjah Police arrested a driver on charges of reckless driving, hours ater a video clip had been posted on social media in which he was seen driving his car at an excessive speed of up to 200 km/hour on a highway in Khor Fakkan, puting his life and the lives of others at risk.

Following intensive investigat­ions ater verifying the video clip, the police were able to identify the vehicle, arrest its driver and take all legal measures against him.

Warning them against reckless driving, the police called on drivers to abide by traffic laws and adhere to the specified speed limits.

Earlier this year, three Asians, a man and two women, were killed on Wednesday ater the car they were in caught fire as a result of collision that involved 4 cars on Sheikh Zayed Road.

According to Brigadier Dr Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of Jebel Ali Police Station, the accident took place in the area past Dubai Parks and Resorts in the Abu Dhabi-dubai direction of Sheikh Zayed Road.

Dubai Police’s Command and Control Centre received a report on the collision at 4.40pm, he said, adding that patrols from the Jebel Ali Police Station rushed to the scene of the collision to secure the accident area and traffic flow and transport the deceased to the hospital.

“One of the cars had been burnt, which caused the death of all the passengers in it,” he said.

Al Suwaidi called on all drivers to exercise extreme caution while driving, abide by the speed limits posted on streets, avoid tailgating and concentrat­e on driving only.

Recently, Abu Dhabi Police began deploying smart, evolutiona­ry patrols capable of detecting unbuckled seat belts, using the mobile phone while driving, overspeedi­ng, distractin­g behaviour and controllin­g the out of licence and wanted vehicles.

Abu Dhabi Police said that the smart patrol has advanced technical systems to automatica­lly control a range of violations and notify the violating drivers by text messages, calling on road users to abide by traffic law and traffic safety instructio­ns.
