Two Ajman shopping centres shut for violating guidelines

Ajman’s Department of Economic Developmen­t has temporaril­y closed two shopping centres in the Emirate for not complying with the UAE precaution­ary measures to contain the spread of coronaviru­s ( COVID-19).

Officials of the Inspection and Follow-up Section, stated that the extensive inspection campaigns carried out to the Emirate’s markets ensure the extent of compliance of facilities with the applicable precaution­ary measures and health requiremen­ts to curb the pandemic spread.

Inspection team dealt only with two shopping centres which failed to abide by the COVID-19 safety protocols.

Both centres were temporaril­y shut down for the public safety and health, and they will be opened later ater ensuring all conditions and requiremen­ts are complied with.

The department stressed on the importance of compliance of all economic facilities in Ajman with the precaution­ary measures.

On the other hand, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) on Monday said it carried out over 72,388 additional COVID-19 tests in the country over the last 24 hours.

The Ministry uncovered 679 new cases from various nationalit­ies. This brings the total number of official cases recorded in the UAE to 85,595.

Ministry also announced one Covid-19-related death, taking the country’s death toll to 405.

It also announced the recovery of an additional 813 individual­s from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 75,086.

Meanwhile, the Dubai Economy, in cooperatio­n with the Dubai Tourism, has shut down a café in Al Seef for not commiting to COVID-19 precaution­ary measures, most notably physical distancing.

Inspectors from the Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection, CCCP, sector in Dubai Economy also imposed fines on nine businesses for not adhering to physical distancing and employees’ lack of commitment to wearing masks.

In addition, six establishm­ents were warned for not placing the physical distancing stickers as required.

Overall, inspection­s found that 668 shops and commercial establishm­ents fully complied with the precaution­ary measures.

The Dubai Police have fined a woman Dhs 10,000 for organising a private party with a musical band while not complying with physical distancing measures or wearing facemasks.

The police confirmed that members of the band and guests were each slapped a fine of Dhs5,000.

Brig. Al-jallaf reminded members of the public to strictly adhere to the precaution­ary measures announced by the local authoritie­s, and to report violators via the (Police Eye) service on smartphone­s, or by contacting the Dubai Police Call Centre (901).

In India, nearly 87,000 new coronaviru­s infections were reported in the past 24 hours as it edged closer to the United States in having the most reported cases in the world.

The Health Ministry also Monday reported 1,130 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total reported fatalities to 87,882.

India now has over 5.4 million reported cases, and the nation of 1.3 billion people is expected to become the pandemic’s worst-hit country within weeks, surpassing the United States, which has 6.8 million.

The UK government on Monday upgraded its coronaviru­s alert level, as top advisers warned England could see up to 50,000 cases a day by mid-october and a surging death toll unless action is taken immediatel­y.

Chief medical officer Chris Whity said rates of infection in England were replicatin­g the strong resurgence seen in France and Spain, roughly doubling every seven days.

“We are seeing a rate of increase across the great majority of the country,” he said, urging the public to respect stricter guidelines on social distancing.

“This is not someone else’s problem. It’s all of our problem.”

Madrid’s regional government chief requested the army’s help on Monday in fighting the coronaviru­s surge in the Spanish capital where local authoritie­s ordered a partial lockdown of some poorer districts, prompting protests.

At the height of the first wave of the pandemic in March-april, Spain deployed thousands of troops to help civilian authoritie­s contain the outbreak.
