Dubai Police to host event for cyclists

DUBAI: The Dubai Police, in cooperatio­n with its strategic partners, is organising a “Dubai’s Bicycle-friendly” event at the Nad Al Sheba cycling track.

The event, which is part of Dubai Police’s community-based initiative “Positive Soul”, will feature an awareness workshop on public safety and cycling tips for cyclists.

Ms Fatima Bu Hajeer, Head of Community Initiative­s Section at the Community Relations Department at the General Department for Community Happiness, confirmed that the “Dubai’s Bicycle-friendly” event is a part of the “Positive Soul” initiative that is organised in response to the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Community Sports Initiative.

Bu Hajeer invited members of the public to join the event and learn more about cycling safety and evenful atmosphere. “Positive Soul aims at enhancing key values including tolerance and co-existence and communicat­ion among members of the society. It also encourages acceptance and respecful behaviours towards each other and rejecting all forms of extremism, hatred, violence, prejudice and discrimina­tion,” “Dubai Police aim at benefiting from sports and encourage the members of the community to have beter use of their free time through awareness and cultural programs,” Bu Hajeer added.

An earlier report said Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, announced the Sheikh Zayed Road would turn into a track for the city’s newest cycling event, Dubai Ride, on 20th November, 2020.

The non-competitiv­e, free-to-enter, community event, held as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2020, will take cyclists of all abilities and experience­s on a ride through the city’s main artery.

Dubai Ride will feature two distinct routes – a 4km family ride and a 14km open ride. The 4km family-friendly, fun ride is open to participan­ts five years and older, across all abilities and fitness levels. The route will take riders around Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. The 14km route, created for cycling enthusiast­s who are 13 years of age or older, will take them on a bike ride through Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Dubai Canal and Sheikh Zayed Road.

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed, said, “The Dubai Ride, part of Dubai Fitness Challenge 2020, is aligned with our vision to transform the city into a bicycle-friendly metropolis and our efforts to encourage people to adopt cycling as a sport.”
