Three adventurous Emiratis shatter Guinness records

It is Guinness World Records Day, the annual record-breaking day. This has been an unexpected year, therefore the GWR Day was welcomed with a positive response from people around the world hoping to unite positively ater a very difficult year.

As with everything this year, GWR will be hosting a digital event, 24 Hours of RecordBreaking – to recognise the efforts people have put in around the world despite the restrictions.

Three Emiratis took part in the GWR Day and broke 4 different titles.

Dr. Khawla Al Romaithi managed to break the world record for the fastest time in travelling to all seven continents.

Omeir Saeed, 23, broke two GWR titles, farthest wakeboard ramp jump (male) and most wakeboard rail airs (supermans) in 30 seconds.

He is the UAE Open Men National champion from 2012-2020, he has been wakeboarding for as long as he could remember.

According to Saeed, “Having this global recognition in hand makes me proud as an Emirati, as this is certainly the jewel in the crown of so many years of achievement and success.”

Dr Khawla Al Romaithi recorded the fastest time in travelling to all seven continents. She carried out the journey within 3 days, 14hours, 46minutes and 48 seconds.

“I think it is destined to be like that, as since I started my trip in February 2020, the whole world changed all of a sudden, and I think it makes this achievement even more challenging and worthy. Being an Emirati mom with all this will makes me the proudest ever,” said Dr Alromaithi.

Meera Al Hosani created the largest “sock word,” writing ‘Happiness’ in Arabic. The love for her litle one was her source of inspiration. Al Hosani used 1,447 socks in creating her masterpiece. She chose socks because they are usually used to show your support by signifying the extra chromosome that people with Down Syndrome usually carry.

Al Hosani said, “I have been blessed with Latifa who spreads joy everywhere she goes. I cannot be more thankful to be recognised as a Guinness World Records title holder, and contribute to sending this message of hope from the UAE.”

With over 50 Guinness World Records titles across the world, the 2020 GWR Day is set to be the most challenging but most rewarding since its creation in 2004.

Recently, The Palm Fountain at The Pointe, Dubai’s premier lifestyle and dining destination by Nakheel, has secured the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Fountain ater a breathtaking launch streamed live across the world.

The magical show was atended by distinguished guests, residents and tourists, who watched in awe as The Palm Fountain broke the record in tune to an exclusive song – Dubai is another planet, produced to reflect the city’s vibrant and inspirational spirit.

A celebration of Dubai’s creativity and ambition, The Palm Fountain is spread over 14,000 sq t of sea water and is the only multi-coloured fountain in the city. Its super shooter stands tall at 105 metres and comes alive with over 3,000 LED lights.

Two of the Middle East’s much loved and award-winning Disney songs - Let It Go from Frozen and A Whole New World from Aladdin - were also played for the momentous occasion, and are part of the fountain’s regular programming.
