Rapist gets death in child pornograph­y case

RAWALPINDI: A Pakistani court convicted child rapist for abusing and uploading pornograph­ic videos of 30 children on Internatio­nal Dark Web.

Additional district and sessions’ judge of Rawalpindi Jehangir Ali Gondal handed down the death sentence to Sohail Ayaz on three counts.

He has also been awarded life imprisonme­nt thrice. The court also imposed a fine of Rs600,000 on the convict.

Sohail Ayaz had been convicted of similar crimes in Britain and Italy before being deported to Pakistan, where he continued to target children, according to police.

“He will be hanged by the neck until his death,” read the court’s verdict, which is subject to confirmati­on by the Lahore High Court.

Senior police official Rai Mazhar said Ayaz had worked for the high-profile charity Save the Children and a Us-backed aid project in Afghanista­n.

The Rawaplpind­i police arrested Ayaz in November 2019 for molesting a 13-year waiter of a tea stall.

During the investigat­ion he confessed to having abducted and sexually assaulted over 30 children in different cities.

He also admited that he was a convicted paedophile deported from the UK and Italy ater spending four years in jail abroad and now working as consultant to the Khyberpakh­tunkhwa government.

As per the court record, Ayaz had raped over 30 children and uploaded videos of the assaults to the dark web.

According to the police, 45-year-old Sohail Ayaz is a chartered accountant. He was earning around Rs 300,000 per month for providing consultanc­y services to the KP Public Secretaria­t Planning Department. The services of Sohail were terminated immediatel­y following his arrest.

In a separate developmen­t, a boy in Sukkur, Sindh province, risked his life and jumped off from a flat to save himself from allegedly being raped, police said.

According to police, three suspects have been arrested, while the injured boy was shited to a hospital for medical atention.

A day earlier, two boys were allegedly raped by four men in Queta’s Kech district.

According to police, the victims’ medical tests came back positive ater which a case was filed.

The police said one suspect was arrested, while raids are being conducted to apprehend the other three.
