SHARJAH: Besides all the gleaming malls, markets spread on both sides of leading arteries and scattered shopping destinations, many residents found Sharjah’s Industrial Area No 6 a unique shopping destination. The area, with a number of warehouses, lures people from all segments of life with one big attraction: low prices.

Each warehouse has its unique collection of products, ranging from household goods to decorative artifacts to garments for everyone to construction material and equipment for furnishing houses to manual or electrical tools to fulfil the needs of residents.

There are scores of stalls in each warehouse as each has been offering a unique range of products. “We are in this business for years as most of the paraphernalia either used items or new. Most of the stocks comprise miscellaneous products especially all kinds of used household items imported from various European countries as they are constantly upgrading their households every year with fresh products,” said Riaz Ahmed, one of the salesmen from Rahim Yar Khan district in Pakistan.

Like Riaz, many salespersons working in these establishments are from different parts of Punjab and Sindh provinces in Pakistan dealing in a wide range of used household products like kitchenware, decorative items and entertainment gadgets.

“Most of our new tools are coming from China but many stalls are selling stocks let by shops once they wind up their businesses. These stocks with a huge varieties we bought at a good price and stock them up in the warehouse markets for people who always find good products at nominal prices,” said Salar, another salesman.

For Kumar, the market with an abundance of warehouses is a great opportunity for people who were unable to find what they were looking for in the main markets. “There are many warehouses who have stocks of different kinds of electric gadgets of ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s like recorders, old cameras, music players, CD players, sound systems, TVS, LCDS and many other such things and many people we saw asking for these old products,” he said.

Residents who need some sort of construction material are regularly visiting these warehouses to look for their required articles and are always satisfied with the bargain. “Holding a small maintenance setup in Ajman, I always need a small quantity of construction products and these warehouses are the best places to realise such needs with affordable prices,” said Siddu, owner of a maintenance shop in Ajman.

The area has been doted with many warehouses especially dealing in used generators, water dispensers, refrigerators, fridges and other household items.
