Abu Dhabi Police urge safety during N-day

-

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Police, ADP, urged the public to adhere to the precautionary and preventive measures aimed at limiting the spread of coronavirus, COVID-19, during the 49th National Day holiday.

They also encouraged people to have a safe and happy holiday by following traffic rules while watching fireworks on the streets and called upon parents to ensure their children’s safety while riding on bikes, and to adhere to public safety rules to avoid accidents.

The ADP highlighted the importance for motorists to adherence to traffic laws, noting that they should refrain from standing on the roof of their vehicles or climb out of their windows while driving, as well as disrupting traffic or blocking the way of others.

The ADP urged motorists to wear face masks, respect social distancing rules, refrain from making noise, and not alter the engines of their vehicles without a permit.

They also told motorists and passengers to not use any sprays and not cover their vehicles’ windows with stickers, highlighting that the maximum capacity allowed per vehicle was three people.

Recently, the Abu Dhabi Police, ADP, launched the virtual initiative, entitled, “Safe Child City,” for the second year in a row, coinciding with World Children’s Day on 20th November and National Bullying Prevention Week.

Brigadier Saeed Hamad Al Kaabi, Director of the Social Support Centres Department of the ADP, stated that the initiative was part of the department’ s ongoing awareness activities and will continue until 29th November, targeting the largest possible number of community members. He also noted that the initiative was virtual to protect everyone’s safety, in line with the precautionary measures aimed at reducing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

He then highlighted the ADP’S keenness to protect and educate children, by implementing programmes aimed at reducing negative behaviour and raising their awareness, as well as drafting laws to train human resources to handle and limit these behaviours.

He also noted that the initiative was an annual celebration for children on their international day, and supported the country’s efforts to drat laws aimed at guaranteeing children’s rights and raising their awareness.

The “Safe Child City” is one of the ADP’S initiatives that is part of its strategic plan to protect children, under the framework of an appropriate legal system, he added.

The ADP’S Social Support Centres Department and Juvenile Care Centre, and its security media and sports education departments and the Emirates Electronic Evidence Centre, were participating in the initiative.

The initiative involved cultural workshops, lectures and preventive sessions aimed at supporting children psychologically and socially, to highlight anti-bullying efforts in schools and raise students’ awareness about bullying, its effect on the community and individuals and how to combat it, as well as to raise community awareness via the media and the ADP’S social media outlets, and distribute awareness publications virtually in several languages.

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

Recently, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police, ADP, urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws and regulations, to ensure road safety and prevent traffic accidents.

On the occasion of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, the directorate stressed its keenness to ensure traffic safety, in coordination with the ADP’S partners, through achieving the best response rates and providing logistical support to injured people, such as ambulance and rescue services.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims has become an important tool in global efforts to reduce road casualties. It offers an opportunity for drawing atention to the scale of emotional and economic devastation caused by road crashes and for giving recognition to the suffering of road traffic victims and support and rescue services.
