Indian expats can renew driving permit in UAE: Embassy

ABU DHABI: Indian nationals residing in the UAE can now renew their Internatio­nal Driving Permit (IDP) through the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi.

The embassy in a circular said that anyone who wishes to renew his or her permit must visit the mission on working hours. It also said that the authoritie­s in India must have issued the permit for the concerned person.

The advisory reads, “As approved by the Government of India, like all other Embassies of India, the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, in cooperatio­n with Ministry of Transport and Highways (MORTH), will also w.e.f 15.02.2021 facilitate the re-issuance of Internatio­nal Driving Permit (IDP), to Indian nationals, which were originally issued by the relevant authoritie­s in India.

“Those who intend to avail of this Consular Service may please visit the Embassy during working hours ( between 08:30 AM to 12:30 PM on all working days from Sunday-thursday) with their valid Passport and expired IDP/IDP number as well as their Indian driving licence.

Ater physical verificati­on of the documents, they will be asked to submit duly filled in Miscellane­ous Consular Service Form (EAP-II) (available at the link htps:llindembas­syuae. goy.in/applicatio­n-form.php) along with Dhs 40/- as Consular service fee and Dhs8/- as Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) charge.

“The applicant would need to upload all the relevant documents along with the receipt issued by the Mission in the portal www.parivahan.gov.in and pay the requisite LDP fees online on the same portal.

On receipt of the applicatio­n through the portal, the licensing authority (MORTH), upon verificati­on of the document shall courier the IDP, directly to the residentia­l address of the applicant.”

The mission said, “It may be noted that the role of the Embassy in this Consular Service is limited to the extent of facilitati­ng submission of IDP renewal applicatio­n form only. Any further correspond­ence pertaining to the subject, including status of the applicatio­n, would need to be verified directly from the concerned authority ( MORTH) in India.”

Recently, the Indian Consulate in Dubai had issued a statement advising Indians not to visit the consulate, unless an emergency situation due to rising COVID-19 cases in the UAE.

Since the beginning of 2021, there is an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The UAE has issued strict COVID-19 guidelines for residents and visitors to curb the spread of virus. Hety fines have been imposed for violators of the COVID-19 rules.
