DUBAI: An Arab worker was sentenced to 6 months in jail and a fine of Dhs1,500 for impersonating a police officer to rob an Asian victim in Dubai.

During last November, the victim filed a robbery report, claiming that the defendant approached him and his brother in a shopping mall’s parking lot, and introduced himself as an undercover police officer.

The defendant suddenly slapped the victims and asked them to show their IDS.

Once the victim took out his wallet, the defendant grabbed it and fled the scene.

The thief managed to flee with Dhs1,500 and bank cards, but was successfully arrested by police within a record time.

FIVE MEN ARRESTED IN THEFT CASE: An Asian gang of five men were sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment, followed by deportation and a Dhs56,000 fine, for stealing boxes of spices from a warehouse in Dubai.

The robbery dates back to last October, when an employee discovered that the warehouse was broken into and 49 boxes of spices were missing.

Surveillance cameras revealed that the five gang members had stolen the boxes and transposed them through a mini van.

Three of the defendants were arrested, while the other two are still runaways.

MAN ROBBED: The generosity of an Asian driver living in Dubai city was repaid by an unexpected robbery atack by an African man who only asked for a free ride.

During last November, the 28-year-old African suspect decided to use a different robbery method and plan his atack on an innocent driver by asking for help in the middle of the night and claiming to have wanted a nearby place.

The good-hearted citizen did not bare to leave the suspect roaming the streets with no other cars available in that area, so he decided to let him in without having any suspicion.

The suspect rode in the front seat next to the driver, then launched his atack minutes ater they moved, as he suddenly strangled the driver and began to beat him to give up his belongings.

He managed to mug Dhs500 and the victim’s phone, then him to pull over in order to flee.
