- Gulf Today, Staff Reporter

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Police, in co-operation with the Ajman Police, arrested a gang of five Asian people including a woman, who used phone fraud to trap their victims and get their savings and bank balances fraudulently. A number of mobile phones and SIM cards were seized from their possession.

Brigadier General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of Criminal Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, affirmed that the police would be on the lookout for anyone who seeks to undermine the security of society and seize people’s money fraudulently. The police would also pursue these criminal gangs wherever they are in order to get the deterrent punishment they deserve in accordance with the law, he added.

He thanked Ajman Police for their efforts and co-operation with Abu Dhabi Police, which led to the arrest of the gang.

Brigadier General Imran Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Director of Criminal Investigations Department at Abu Dhabi Police, warned members of the society against falling victim to those criminal gangs by not disclosing their bank accounts and credit card numbers.

He pointed out that these gangs were deluding the victims that their accounts or ATM cards had been blocked or frozen in order to seize their money, stressing the necessity not to respond to these deceptive communications and not to divulge bank account information and personal data or share it with anyone.

Explaining that banks do not ask for banking data to be updated over the phone, Al Mazrouei asked bank customers not to be deceived by these fake communications and messages and to go to the nearest bank branch and update the data only through the bank’s customer service employees.

He called on the public to promptly inform the police of any calls they receive from unknown people asking them to update their bank data by contacting the Aman service on the toll-free number (8002626) or by SMS2828) and report to the nearest police station.
