DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian sales representative for 3 months in jail, to be followed by deportation ater serving the jail term, and fined him Dhs15,000 ater he was convicted of forging a rental contract and a real estate registration certificate with which he defrauded a female airline atendant.

The incident dates back to an earlier time when the victim contacted a person who put an advertisement on a website offering to sell and rent housing units.

According to the victim’s testimony in the prosecution’s investigations, the suspect rented her an apartment for Dhs40,000 for a year, which she actually paid for the first year.

Upon the expiry of the contract period, the victim wanted to renew it, and she said she handed the suspect Dhs15,000 as a first payment and received a contract atested by the Real Estate Registration Department.

Ater some time, she received a call from the real property owner informing her that the one who rented her the apartment was not its owner, so she filed a report with the police.

The suspect admited he connived with a fugitive to forge the lease contract of an apartment he rented and he also admited that he got Dhs15,000 from the victim.
