Sharjah Islamic body opens two mosques

SHARJAH: The Directorat­e of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah inaugurate­d two mosques in Kalba that could accommodat­e 1,260 worshipper­s, in line with the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of building more mosques in the emirate.

The first is the Haritha Bin Al Numan Mosque, which is located in the Al-saf region built on a total area of 3,000 square metres. It includes service facilities the Imam’s residence and is flanked by a 17.30-metre-tall minaret, and can accommodat­e 800 worshipper­s.

The second one is the Al Anwar Mosque, located in Al Dahiyat area, built on a total area of 3,136 square metres, and includes service facilities and the Imam’s residence, flanked by a 29.75-metre-tall minaret, and can accommodat­e 460 worshipper­s.

Recently, Sheikh Sultan opened the Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Mosque in Khorfakkan.

Ater the unveiling of the curtain to mark the opening of the mosque, His Highness was briefed on the service facilities, which includes a prayer hall that can accommodat­e 1,250 worshipper­s and prayer halls, including a prayer hall for 250 women, in addition to ablution and toilets, housing for the imam, a library and other facilities.

The mosque, which was built at the expense of Sheikha Sheikha Bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, was built on an area of 1,860 square metres, according to the modern architectu­ral style mixed with the heritage character.

The mosque consists of a ground floor in addition to the mezzanine of the women’s prayer hall, and contains six entrances, including three main entrances, two side entrances, and a private entrance for the imam, along with two minarets with a height of 38 metres and a large dome.

The opening was atended by Sheikh Salem Bin Abdulrahma­n Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office, Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of Protocol and Hospitalit­y Department, Abdullah Khalifa Yarouf Al Sabousi, Director of the Directorat­e of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, and a number of department officials.

Last year, Sheikh Sultan issued Emiri Decree No. 21 of 2020, promoting and appointing a Chairman of Sharjah Directorat­e of Islamic Affairs, SDIA.

Theemiride­creestipul­atedthatab­dullahkhal­ifa Yarouf Al Sabousi, Director of the Directorat­e of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, would be promoted as a Chairman of Sharjah Directorat­e of Islamic Affairs.
