The Smart Living initiative has achieved savings up to 179.5 million kilowat hours of electricity and 67.7 million gallons of water, since its launch in July 2020 until January 2021. This is equal to savings of Dhs52.6 million. Smart adoption of the initiative has reached 100% while 1.24 million digital visits have been recorded. The initiative reduced 15,643 tonnes of carbon emissions. Customer trust has increased to 92% while their satisfaction reached 98%. The initiative has improved the productivity of employees by 27% while the service quality has reached 94%.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa, said that the Smart Living initiative supports the civic body’s efforts to raise the awareness of customers about sustainability and conservation. It also contributes to Dewa’s efforts in reducing the cost for customers, the carbon footprint apart from improving the efficiency, speed of internal operations, and providing smart added-value services that reduce time and efforts. ‘ Smart Living’ comes in line with the Smart Dubai initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid

Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world and the Demand Side Management Strategy which aims to reduce 30 per cent of electricity and water demand by 2030. Al Tayer praised the positive response of community members towards Dewa’s initiatives and using the smart features that Dewa provides to encourage Dubai residents to follow a responsible lifestyle in the electricity and water consumption. It also encourages them to reduce waste and to promote conservation as a culture and daily behaviour.”

The Smart Living initiative depends on the smart grid data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), partnerships with the public and private sectors to help customers understand, monitor, and conserve their consumption instantly and proactively. This avoids unexpected consumption. Customers can log into their Dewa accounts on the website or smart app, update their Consumption Patern file, check their digital dashboards to monitor consumption, know more about residential customer tariff slabs, and get conservation tips.

Customers can also benefit from the ‘ My Sustainable Living’ programme by comparing consumption with similar homes. They can also make use of Dewa Store offers to purchase energy and water-saving devices. Dewa helps customers who have smart electricity and water meters to monitor their consumption and get daily, monthly and annual reports. It also helps them select the date and time to conduct a field visit, identify the location accurately, and track the service request status. Through the ‘Away Mode’ feature, the initiative sends customers daily or weekly reports by email while away from home. Also, Dewa provides the ‘High Water Usage Alert ‘which is part of the Smart Response initiative to help customers discover any leakage in the water connections ater the meter.

Recently, Dewa organised 1,685 virtual training courses for its staff in collaboration with major public and private organisations from Apr.1, 2020 to Dec.31, 2020.

This is part of its efforts to atract and sponsor talents, strengthen their skills and prepare them to become future leaders. More than 31,673 trainees atended the workshops with a total of 181,811 training hours.

Amid the extraordinary circumstances of COVID-19, Dewa employed modern technologies such as remote learning using different sotware programmes and smart learning.

The courses focused on various topics, including technical, health and safety, employment competence, innovation and future-shaping, administrativeworkshopsandemployeehappiness.

It is commited to providing a motivating work environment that develops the skills and capabilities of its staff and encourages them to create, innovate, and adopt excellence as a solid corporate culture and daily work behaviour. Dewa strives to support its staff in their careers and personal lives. It is responsible for providing them with the needed tools to become effective partners in shaping the future,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa.
