DUBAI: The Novel Coronavirus pandemic has not stopped the Philippines’ participation at the 26th year of the Gulfood Hotel and Exhibition and Salon Culinaire (Gulfood) this Feb.21 to 25.

Owners and representatives of 13 food export companies would connect and transact business with interested international and regional food distributors and middlemen, digitally. Their products are showcased at the 36-square metre “Foodphilippines,” located at the Sheikh Rashid Hall-r172 of the Dubai World Trade Centre. Manning the pavilion are Manila’s Department of Trade and Industry (Dti)-philippine Trade and Investment Centre (Dubai) management and staff.

Featured products include rice varieties of different colours, breads, canned sardines and tuna, coconut water, and fresh and dried tropical fruits.

Commercial Atache-middle East and Africa Charmaine Mignon Yalong told Gulf Today on Thursday aternoon: “Products of the participants are going to be on display with QR Codes that will direct buyers to the inboxes of the exporters or to htps://food Philippines.com/gulfood where business meetings can be scheduled.

“It is our hope that through this hybrid Gulfood participation, we will be able to sustain the success of last year, which resulted in over $102 million booked sales, while ensuring the safety and well-being of our participants,” she said.

Yalong added: “There is no way to go but forward. We have to recognise that we need to adapt our ways of doing business to this new normal.”

A support business matching by way of the Hop In online communications plaform, that allows the food exporters to curate their products, had been calendared for Mar.14 to 16.

In-charge of the yearly Philippines’ Gulfood participation is DTI’S Centre for International Trade Expositions and Missions in coordination with the PTIC-DUBAI.

According to an earlier report, as Expo 2020
