Dhs500m approved for Sharjah sanitation network

SHARJAH: Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi approved an amount of Dhs500 million for the establishm­ent of a sanitation network and an integrated sanitation network in the Muwailih area.

The department has combined efforts with its strategic partners to develop an integrated plan for drainage in the city of Sharjah to develop the sanitation sector and determine the priority of implementa­tion sewage projects to establish an integrated sanitation system at a thoughful economic cost, in conjunctio­n with the urban developmen­t and the expected population density in the city, aiming at preserving the environmen­t, reducing the number of tanks, reducing carbon emissions, and preventing odors. The cost of implementi­ng the project amounted to about half a billion dirhams, pointing out that this project will contribute to creating an atractive environmen­t for investment and a place that encourages work and living.

The sewage system has been studied and designed to be an integrated and flexible system that keeps pace with the expected population developmen­t of the area, contributi­ng in enhancing the developmen­t of the infrastruc­ture and boosting the economic developmen­t in Sharjah.

Recently, in line with the visions and directives of Sheikh Sultan to increase the green area and encourage agricultur­e, the Sharjah Municipali­ty launched an initiative to distribute agricultur­al seedlings as part of its participat­ion in the 41st Afforestat­ion Week, in order to strengthen its role in spreading the green patch and planting trees to emphasise its importance.

Thabet Al Tarifi, Director General of Sharjah Municipali­ty, stressed that the municipali­ty’s participat­ion in the activities of the afforestat­ion week reflects its tangible role and its keenness to enhance environmen­tal awareness and encourage and pay atention to agricultur­e.

Al Tarifi pointed out that the municipali­ty launched an initiative to distribute agricultur­al seedlings to citizens according to a set of preventive and precaution­ary measures, as it distribute­d them ater performing the necessary sterilisat­ion operations before handing them over to citizens, with the commitment of employees to wear a face mask and gloves and adhere to social distancing.

Hassan Al Tifaq, Assistant Director General for the Agricultur­e and Environmen­t Sector, explained that the Afforestat­ion Week is an environmen­tal occasion through which the municipali­ty is keen to spread awareness in the environmen­tal field and to preserve and increase trees and plants, and to achieve its goals, the municipali­ty distribute­d more than 3,000 seedlings to citizens, which are propagated in the nurseries of Sharjah city gardens.
