Sharjah Ramadan Majlis talks fame on social media

Individual­s spend approximat­ely three hours and 50 minutes every day on social media plaforms, it was revealed at the Majlis session

As part of Sharjah Ramadan Majlis’ sessions organised by Sharjah Press Club (SPC), a subsidiary of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the second session was kicked off on 21 April 2021, at Al Majaz Amphitheat­re, titled “The Pursuit of Fame… Material Gain or Talent?, aimed at tackling various facets of fame in social media communicat­ion plaforms and its deep impact on society.

The session was atended by Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Council; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau along with a number of invitees.

Speaking on the session, Sami Al Riyami, Editor-in-chief of Emarat Al Youm newspaper and Talal Al-buhairi, social media activist, shared their view and exchanged expertise in social communicat­ion plaforms field. The session was moderated by Muhammad Al Kaabi.

Sami Al Riyami underscore­d the deep impact of social media plaforms on society as individual­s spend approximat­ely three hours and 50 minutes time per day on these plaforms, highlighti­ng the necessary need to think seriously about its negative and positive sides.

Sami Al Riyami affirmed the importance of raising awareness among society against the negative content which was published by some celebritie­s in the social communicat­ion plaforms, appreciati­ng the unlimited efforts exerted by concerned entities in the United Arab Emirates to preserve societal values through launching several meaningful initiative­s.

For his part, Talal Al-buhairi shed light on the worrying impact of the negative content on the society published by some social media plaforms’ celebritie­s, which contribute to forming a negative stereotype for their countries. He pointed out to some negative behaviour conducted by some celebritie­s by disseminat­ing their private life and Western ideas via a social media plaform in order to raise their number of views and follow-ups.

Al-buhairi emphasised the role of society in confrontin­g negative content in social media plaforms, noting the importance of seting control regulation­s to preserve values and instil the culture of freedom and responsibi­lity in a proper manner.

Earlier, the Sharjah Press Club (SPC), a subsidiary of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), unveiled the 10th edition of Sharjah Ramadan Majlis on Monday, April 19, beginning with the Religious session titled ‘Reasons of Happiness in the World and Aterlife’, at the Holy Quran Academy in Sharjah. Continuing its annual tradition of encouragin­g intellectu­al dialogue and understand­ing, SPC is once again hosting a series of intellectu­ally stimulatin­g and engaging sessions during the Holy Month of Ramadan throughout the Emirate.

Led by Dr Ali Gomaa, former Grand Muti of Egypt and a distinguis­hed scholar from Cairo’s Al Azhar University and Chairman of Religious Affairs Commitee of Egyptian Parliament, the Religious session was atended by Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Council; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau; Hassan Yacoub Al Mansouri, Secretary General of the Sharjah Media Council; Prof. Dr Awad Al Khalaf,

Acting Director of Al Qasimia University (AQU), besides a number of senior officials and invitees. Addressing the Religious session via recorded video, Dr Ali Gomaa explained the concept of happiness saying it is a difficult term to explain because happiness is a taste and every person has a different view of this concept.

He said, “Some people believe that happiness is devoting one’s life to worship of Allah whereas others define it as contentmen­t and satisfacti­on. All these terms are correct as true happiness lies in obeying Allah the Almighty and the Messenger of God, peace be upon him.”

Dr Ahmed Al Haddad, Grand Muti and Director of the Fatwa Department at the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities of Dubai, also spoke on the occasion pointing out that happiness lies in obtaining assistance from Allah to do good work and serving humanity. He said that the greatest happiness that human beings can gain in the world is to obey Allah the Almighty and his Prophet, peace be upon him, leading to eternal happiness in the aterlife. The session was moderated by Mohamed Al Suwaidi.
