UAE sends food aid to Kyrgyzstan and Niger

ABU DHABI: The UAE on Monday sent a plane containing 50 metric tonnes of food supplies to Kyrgyzstan as part of its initiative­s during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Saeed Matar Al Qemzi, UAE Ambassador to Uzbekistan and Non-resident Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, said, “The UAE has commited to supporting brotherly and friendly countries in all circumstan­ces. This plane comes during the Holy Month of Ramadan as part of the country’s tireless efforts and the firm values of its wise leadership in service of co-operation and solidarity.”

He added, “Kyrgyzstan was among the countries that previously received UAE assistance in efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. On April 23, 2020, a plane carrying 7 metric tonnes of medical supplies was dispatched, benefiting 7,000

Meanwhile, the UAE also sent a plane carrying 52 metric tonnes of food supplies to the Republic of Niger as part of its initiative­s during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Amer Al Menhali, Charge d’affaires of the UAE Embassy in Chad, said, “The UAE considers co-operation with the internatio­nal community to be crucial, especially in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This plane was sent to support families in need in Niger during the holy month.”

“This is the second plane to arrive in Niger from the UAE. The first one was sent in May last year carrying 6 metric tons of medical supplies, benefiting 6,000 healthcare workers as they worked to contain the spread of COVID-19,” Al Menhali added.

Recently, the UAE sent an aid plane containing 51 metric tonnes of food aid to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovin­a as part of its humanitari­an initiative­s during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“The UAE and Bosnia and Herzegovin­a share close historical ties and have engaged in joint action in many areas as part of the keenness of the two countries’ leadership to develop and strengthen these ties to serve common interests,” said Nabila Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Montenegro and Non-resident Ambassador to Bosnia and Hercegovin­a and to the Republic of Kosovo.
