Two robbers mug African couple, steal phones and wallets

DUBAI: An African worker and his runaway accomplice were prosecuted by Dubai courts on robbery charges, ater atacking and mugging a couple in Naif, Dubai.

The case dates back to February, when the couple was walking towards a big market at midnight. The female victim said, “I just finished my shit and was heading to the supermarke­t when the two robbers showed up behind me.” The first defendant grabbed her phone, while the second grabbed her backpack. Aterwards, one of them restrained the male victim and the second pushed the woman to the ground before fleeing the scene.

They managed to grab thedhs 960 worth phone, and a Dhs50 worth bag with another phone and Dhs450 inside. The female victim atempted to catch them but failed to do so.

However, she head towards Naif Police Station to file a robbery report.

TWO DRUG TRAFFICKER­S: The Dubai Public Prosecutio­n has referred two drug trafficker­s of Asian and Arab nationalit­ies for possession charges on two separate cases. In the first case, the 51-yearold Asian was visiting UAE when he was caught atempting to smuggle heroin into Dubai Airport.

Last April, a female customs officer suspected the contents of the defendant’s bags, and asked him to undergo a bag and body search.

Hiddeninsi­dethebags’handles,theofficer­found 28 plastic rolls filled with heroin, weighing 3.7kg.

When asked about the drugs, the defendant claimed to have received the two bags from a person back in his home country.

He admited to knowing that it contained drugs but did not know its type. He said that it was scheduled to be delivered to a man inside the country.

In another drug-traffickin­g bust, an Arab worker was arrested and prosecuted for possessing and facilitati­ng hashish to his friend in Dubai.

The defendant’s friend was first caught by anti-narcotics teams while in possession of hashish.

When he was asked about the source of the drugs, he revealed that it was from the apprehende­d defendant.

The defendant was tracked and arrested, and they both had to undergo a drug test which resulted in the positive.

Earlier, an African saleswoman was arrested and referred to the Dubai criminal court for attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country through the airport.

The 40-year-old woman had over 1.5kg of cocaine in her bag.

The incident took place during April, ater the defendant had arrived at Terminal 3 around 5am, and was caught by female customs officers.
