Aster group staff reach UAE on special flights from India

A group of 73 health workers from the Aster group of hospitals and clinics, including doctors, nurses and paramedics, landed in the UAE from India

Internatio­nal flights from India to the UAE have been suspended till July 21. However, there are exceptions.

In what can be seen as a major sign of flexibilit­y by the government for the medical sector, a group of 73 health workers from the Aster group of hospitals and clinics, including doctors, nurses and paramedics, landed in the UAE from India.

They were carrying a special travel permit provided by Dubai Health Authority for the group ater Aster DM Healthcare sought permission to ferry the healthcare frontliner­s to the UAE. DHA forwarded the approved list of travellers to Emirates Airlines.

Ater the trip was greenlight­ed, the staff split into two groups and let for the UAE on Wednesday. More healthcare workers may fly to the UAE in the near future.

Most of the existing healthcare profession­als were on leave at home when the virus restrictio­ns were imposed.

The team consists of profession­als with expertise in dealing with coronaviru­s patients and intensive care units.

Dr Sherbaz Bichu, CEO of Aster Hospitals & Clinics, UAE said, “The team has all the necessary approvals from the foreign ministry.

Our healthcare profession­als have travelled from different parts of India – Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu (Pondicherr­y), Maharashtr­a (Mumbai), Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh (Indore) to be present at Cochin & Bangalore terminal on 7th July for their internatio­nal flight departing from India to UAE.”

He thanked the Dubai government bodies for their kind gesture in arranging for the trip.

“We will continue to serve our sole purpose of providing treatment and deliver healthcare services to families, individual­s and communitie­s in the UAE with strength and confidence.”

EMIRATES RESTARTS PASSENGER SERVICES TO MAURITIUS: Emirates has announced it will restart passenger services to Mauritius this summer with two weekly flights from 15th July, as the island-nation gradually re-opens its borders to internatio­nal tourists.

The airline has also announced it will deploy its iconic Emirates A380 aircrat to Mauritius starting 1st August. The flights to Mauritius will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Starting from 15th July, the route will be served utilising a Boeing 777-300ER aircrat, and from 1st August, utilising the Emirates A380 aircrat.

From 15th July to 30th September 2021, Mauritius will open its borders to vaccinated passengers and Mauritian nationals. From 1 October, the country will start to welcome fully vaccinated travellers who can explore the island freely with no restrictio­ns.

67,438 MORE DOSES OF COVID-19 VACCINE ADMINISTER­ED: The Ministry of Health and Prevention ( MOHAP) has announced that 67,438 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given in the past 24 hours.

The total number of doses provided up to Thursday stands at 15,795,853 with a rate of vaccine distributi­on of 159.71 doses per 100 people.

This is in line with the Ministry’s plan to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to all members of society and efforts to reach acquired immunity resulting from the vaccinatio­n, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the virus.

UAE ANNOUNCES 1,539 NEW COVID-19 CASES:

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) announced that it conducted 283,327 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using stateof-the-art medical testing equipment.

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronaviru­s cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensifie­d testing campaign, MOHAP announced 1,539 new coronaviru­s cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 645,653.

According to the Ministry, the infected individual­s are from various nationalit­ies, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.

MOHAP also announced 2 deaths due to COVID-19 complicati­ons, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,849.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolence­s to the families of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authoritie­s, adhere to the instructio­ns and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.
