951g of cocaine found inside African’s stomach

DUBAI: A 47 years old African visitor was arrested and referred to Criminal Court on drugtraffi­cking charges, ater atempting to smuggle 951 grammes of cocaine inside his stomach into the country’s Airport.

The incident took place during last May, when the defendant arrived at the Airport around 1:00am and was going for inspection procedures.

One of the customs officers suspected the defendant and checked his passport. The officer directly asked him if he had anything to disclose, but the smuggler denied in hopes that his crime will not be detected.

The defendant’s bags were searched and nothing suspicious was found inside. However, by following the defendant’s travel route, it was revealed that he had made a transit in another country before entering UAE. It was clear for the officer that it was the first time for the defendant to visit UAE. Accordingl­y, it was determined that he should undergo a body scanner.

3 ASIANS BREAK INTO SHIPPING COMPANY: The Dubai Public Prosecutio­n has referred an Asian trio to Criminal Court on robbery charges, ater they have broken into a shipping company to steal Dhs130,000.

The incident dates back to last May, ater a robbery report was filed by the company owner as he headed to office only to find the front glass all shatered on the ground. “I immediatel­y rushed to review surveillan­ce cameras and saw a man entering through the bathroom’s window around 12:30 am. The burglar headed towards one of the offices and tried to open a table’s drawers in which money was kept inside,” the owner said.

Ater the defendant’s failed atempt, he let the office through the emergency exit, then returned again before sunrise. He entered a different office this time and found a safe, which he covered with a plastic bag and carried outside the building.

Apparently, the defendant’s two accomplice­s, who are on the run, helped him steal and open the safe with Dhs130,000 inside.

2 MEN ON TRIAL FOR IMPERSONAT­ING BANK EMPLOYEES: The Dubai Public Prosecutio­n has referred two Asian men to Criminal Court. They had scammed a woman and robbed her of Dhs160,000.

The court records reveal that both the accused had performed their scam by pretending to be employees of the bank which the victim deals with.

To completely persuade the victim, they provided her with her own account number and personal informatio­n.

The poor victim fell for their scam and provided them with her (OTP), thinking that it’s needed for customer data update as they claimed.
