- Sayed Zaki, Staff Reporter

SHARJAH: The municipality said it provided its employees of the supporting groups working in the field with the hat, which has fans installed on its sides.

Dr Abdullah Ali Al Qaidi, Assistant Director General for the Institutional Support Sector at the municipality explained that the hat is one of the innovative projects adopted by the municipality to preserve the environment and optimize the use of available resources.

He added that the municipality has completed about 50 hats as a first stage.

Al Qaidi indicated that the municipality is keen to protect the supporting groups from heat exhaustion during the summer through continuous workshops and awareness sessions, as well as by providing them with all necessary protection equipment, distributing cold drinks, in addition to its commitment to the decision to ban work at noon.

Engineer Hamid Al Banna, Director of the Transportation Department, said the new hat is made from recycled materials. “The base consists of light metal wires covered with shade nets. Reflective signals were installed on them so as to make the wearer seen at night,” Al Banna added.

He pointed out that the fans work continuously for 3 hours and can be recharged, and that the municipality will develop the hat to run on solar energy.

Separately, Mleiha Archaeological Centre, a tourism and leisure destination from Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), has launched a new on-the-move sky watching experience that allows people to organise and enjoy exclusive stargazing sessions at their preferred location.

The new “Mobile Stargazing Experience” from Mleiha will bring the unique stargazing experience, which includes the HD telescope and assistance of an expert guide, to the location that the guests choose.

The on-the-move activity will be a true treat for astronomy enthusiasts who want to observe the night sky wonders in their comfort zone. The stargazing experience also brings fun and education together turning it into an unforgetable science lesson for the young ones.

The experience can be booked for private sessions, group events, or maybe as a marvellous addition to the special occasion. As a prerequisite for bookings, the location pin needs to be shared in advance to make sure that the location is fit for stargazing activity. The location needs to be accessible by 4x4 and should have a flat area covered in carpet to set up the telescope.
