5,177 motorists fined for hiding licence plate

ABU DHABI: In the first half of 2021, the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) fined 5,177 motorists for hiding the informatio­n on the licence plates of light and heavy vehicles, leading to difficulti­es in monitoring their plate numbers.

The ADP, which urged motorists to not hide the informatio­n on their licence plates, stressed that Article 27B of the Federal Traffic Law stipulated that anyone who commits actions that lead to the blurring of their licence plate numbers will be fined Dhs400. The ADP expressed its keenness to intensify its traffic patrols and take legal action against violators, according to WAM.

The ADP also pointed out that some motorists behave in ways that result in traffic violations and fines, such as blurring or hiding their licence plate numbers. It will intensify its monitoring of all roads and noting that similar violations will be monitored and documented and violators will be subject to legal action, the ADP added.

VEHICLES IMPOUNDED: As many as 2,105 vehicles had been impounded during 2020 and the first six month of 2021 in the emirate of Dubai due to equipping them with technologi­es that increase the speed of their engines and cause disturbanc­e and noise, the Dubai Police said.

Brig. Abdullah Khadem Bin Suroor, Director of Bur Dubai Police Station-chairman of the Police Stations Directors Council, said that the impounded vehicles were 72 in Al Rashidiya Police Station, 4 in Hatta Police Station, 1,902 in Bur Dubai Police Station, 31 in Al Muraqqabat Police Station, 79 in Al Qusais Police Station, and 17 in Jebel Ali Police Station.

He added that the police stations in Dubai, in co-operation with the General Directorat­e of Traffic, intensify traffic campaigns that contribute to controllin­g violators, maintainin­g road safety, reducing fatal accidents, preserving property, ensuring safety for road users, controllin­g traffic violations, especially those related to installing major additives to vehicle engines to create noise with reckless driving.

Suroor called on motorists, especially young people, to abide by the laws and avoid negative behavior, stressing that traffic safety is a duty and responsibi­lity shared by everyone in the society without exception.
