Cop, soldier killed in Quetta, NW attacks
QUETTA: A roadside bomb exploded near a police bus parked outside a university in southwest Pakistan on Monday, killing at least one officer and wounding 15 other people, mostly civilians, a provincial minister said.
The atack happened outside Balochistan University in Queta, the capital of Balochistan province, said Mir Ziaullah Longove, provincial interior minister.
He said rescuers transported the dead and wounded to a government hospital.
No one immediately claimed responsibility but previous such atacks have been blamed on militants including separatists.
Early during the day, a Pakistan army soldier embraced martyrdom ater terrorists targeted security forces check post in North Waziristan’s Spinwam area, said Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Monday.
According to ISPR, troops initiated a prompt response and effectively engaged the terrorist location, adding that during extense exchange of fire, a soldier embraced martyrdom.
The martyred soldier was identified as 25-year-old Saifullah who was a resident of Karak district, the military’s media wing said. A search operation was launched to eliminate any terrorists found in the area, the ISPR said.
On Oct.14, security forces killed a wanted terrorist in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan district, the ISPR said in a statement.
According to the army’s media wing, the IBO was conducted in a hideout on confirmed intelligence of the presence of terrorists in Mir Ali and during an exchange of fire wanted terrorist Arif Ullah alias Dadullah was killed. “Wanted terrorist Arif Ullah alias Dadullah got killed during exchange of fire,” the ISPR said.
In a separate development, the video clip of a local politicians and his armed me surrounding a police officer in Karak district made rounds on social media.
The video clip invited all kinds of rumours across the social media plaforms as people speculated that local militants of Maulana
Sahah Abdulaziz surrounded and tortured two local senior police officers in broad daylight as the armed men visible in the clip looked like militants.
But Regional Police Officer (RPO) Kohat Region, DIG Tahir Ayub, told local journalists that the armed men visible in the video were not militants.
