Briton’s bag left in Dubai found safe

- Staff Reporter

DUBAI: A British passenger known as Peter Lawson discovered that his bag was missing while he was on his flight heading to his homeland.

The bag reportedly contained personal belongings and Dhs70,000. He sent an email to The Dubai International Airport, to which he received the reply in an hour, telling him that his bag was there.

Major General Ali Ateeq Bin Lahej, Director of the General Department of Airport Security at Dubai Police, said that Lawson did not feel worried at all when he discovered that his bag was missing, despite the fact that it contained a large amount of money. He only sent an email containing the specifications of the bag, and the airport staff spared no effort to search for it. They found it within an hour, and Lawson, in turn, thanked the Dubai Police for their quick response.

Peter Lawson said, “I am sure that the Dubai Police staff are very clever, so I did not have any worry about the bag, because I was sure I would find it, thanks to the General Directorate of Airport Security, and the Emirates Airlines staff as well.”

Moreover, members of the public are cordially invited to closely and safely watch Dubai Police as they fire the Itar cannon in the Bluewaters Island on the 30th of April and 1st of May.

Dubai Police Iftar cannon have become a popular tradition since the early 1960s. Every day during the Holy Month of Ramadan, a single shot is fired at the time of Iftar, and two shots are fired to mark the start of the holy month and the commencement of Eid.

This year, Dubai Police have stationed cannon across the emirates in five locations, including Atlantis -the Palm, Burj Khalifa, Al Seef, Al Waheda at Century Mall Dubai, and Hata in front of Emirates Cooperative Society and Hata Hill Park.

The force is also dispatching mobile cannon to 11 areas across the emirate, including Al Satwa near the Big Mosque, Al Qouz near Al Anbiya’a Mosque, Al Lisaili near Al Nahda National School, Lahbab near Lahbab Community Park 1, Al Aweer near Sheikh Hamdan Mosque, Al Khawaneej near Ahmed Al Habbai Mosque, and Muhaisnah near Abdul Rahim Mohammed Kti Mosque.
