DUBAI: Society happiness towards Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was 94.09% in 2021. This recognises DEWA’S efforts in serving society according to an integrated organisational framework and commitment to its values of Stakeholder Happiness; Sustainability; Innovation; Excellence; and Good Governance. Between 2013 and 2021, DEWA launched 380 social initiatives that benefited 36,514,842 people in the UAE and other countries. DEWA’S employees recorded 162,493 volunteering hours during this period.
“All public and private organisations continue to undertake their responsibilities towards society by joining forces to support the government efforts and serve the public good. DEWA’S role is not just limited to providing electricity and water services according to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and reliability, but also focuses on social work as an integral part of its efforts to empower society. DEWA contributes to economic, social, and environmental sustainability within an integrated system that outlines planning, implementation, evaluation and collaboration with several public and private organisations in the UAE. We have witnessed the impressive results of this system during the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. These steps, coupled with DEWA’S efforts to protect the environment, save natural resources, and promote sustainable development, align with our wise leadership’s aspirations to build a brighter future for generations to come,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA’S social initiatives are an indispensable part of its strategy. These initiatives are launched within an integrated system that includes planning, implementation and evaluation according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to ensure the sustainability of results. DEWA enhances social responsibility, instils a culture of humanitarian work, and consolidates the spirit of volunteer work among our employees and society. This has developed corporate responsibility among organisations to become more comprehensive and effective,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Government Communications at DEWA.
DEWA’S efforts in social work have been recognised through significant achievements and prestigious awards in social responsibility locally and globally. In 2015, DEWA was the first government organisation in Dubai to receive the MVO 8000 in social responsibility. In 2020, it achieved first place in the Public Sector Category of the 13th Arabia CSR Awards for the 5th year running. The Arabia CSR Award is one of the most rigorous awards in CSR and sustainability and a benchmark for excellence in sustainability and positive impact.
