Iraqi shoots target on girl’s mouth, draws netizens’ ire

-

BAGHDAD: A video clip of an Iraqi man shooting with his Kalashnikov rifle at a target in his daughter’s mouth has sparked outrage on social media plaforms.

The video, in which the man apparently wanted to show his shooting skills, has angered netizens to the extent that there is a call to impose the severest penalty on him.

The video was published on “Baghdad Al Youm ” newspaper’s website.

In the video the Iraqi man can be seen carrying the gun and boasting of what he is doing.

The man in video first asks his daughter, who seems to be around 6-10 years’ old, to stand still and then he puts a plastic or glass botle in her mouth and takes a position to shoot at the botle from a few metres’ distance.

The man fires from his weapon and the bullet directly hit the target in the girl’s mouth, according to the newspaper.

This reckless and dangerous act drew angry reactions on social media.

Netizens expressed astonishment at this father’s bad behaviour, calling on the concerned authorities to arrest him and impose the suitable punishment on him.

In a separate development, a British man arrested at Baghdad airport in late March in possession of potery fragments that are alleged to be historical artefacts is being held in pre-trial detention, his family said on Sunday.

Jim Fiton, a 66-year-old retired geologist, could face the death penalty under Iraqi law if convicted, his family has said in a petition on the Change.org online plaform, calling for his release.

“He has been imprisoned for allegedly attempting to smuggle historical artefacts out of Iraq,” the petition said.

His son-in-law Sam Tasker said that “it is clearly a mistake, there is clearly no criminal intent.”

“He is an elderly chap. We just want him home safe and sound,” Tasker said on Sunday.

Fiton arrived in Iraq on an organised tour on March 5.

He was supposed to depart on March 20 to return home to Malaysia.
