Propaganda campaign against Imran ‘on the cards’

- Tariq Butt / NNI

ISLAMABAD: Former information minister and Pakistan Tehrik-e-insaf (PTI) Senior Vice-president Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that a plot has been hatched by the political opponents to launch a big character assassination campaign against ex-premier Imran Khan through fake video and audio clips. Intense speculation has been that video and audio clips are being released any time focusing Imran’s life.

In his video message, Chaudhry said it was not for the first time that the opponents were planning a character assassination campaign against the former premier. In the year 2018, a woman [Reham Khan] was given money to write a book against Imran Khan, he alleged.

“Before that organised character assassination campaigns had been launched against Nusrat Bhuto and Benazir Bhuto in 1980s,” he said and made it clear that the movement for geting rid of the “imported government” could not be stopped through any such campaign.

Chaudhry said that on the “Chand Raat,” the PTI youth came out of their houses with flags in their hands in thousands of numbers and that was the start of the long march against the “imported government.”

He said that in the last week of May, hundreds of thousands of people from across Pakistan would reach Islamabad. He regreted that the dummy government was atempting to use blasphemy laws against political opponents. He said that no government in the history of Pakistan had taken this step against political rivals.

“The interior and law ministers were triumphantly saying that they did it against the rivals,” Chaudhry noted and added that in the past, sectarian people would resort to such things against one another. The way threats are being given is evident to everyone.”

According to a report, the top leadership and saner elements in the Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) — the two largest partners in the ruling coalition — are unhappy over the handling of the situation ater the Madinah mosque incident and registration of cases against PTI leaders in different parts of the country.
