Khorfakkan accident injures 2 Emiratis

KHORFAKKAN: Two Emiratis sustained serious to moderate injuries ater their vehicle overturned and guted on a main street in Khorfakkan.

No fatalities were reported as a result of the accident, which took place in Khorfakkan City on Sunday morning, due to the fast response of the competent police authoritie­s.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Rashid Al Yahyaee, Head of Khorfakkan Comprehens­ive Police Station, the operations room of the Eastern Region Police Department received a report at 2:50am on Sunday that an accident took place on Corniche Khorfakkan Street, as a result of which the vehicle caught fire. Patrols and other Civil Defence vehicles and national ambulances arrived at the site of the accident in record time and were able to put out the fire.

The driver and his companion was taken out of the vehicle.

The injured Emiratis were transporte­d to Khorfakkan Hospital for necessary treatment.

Investigat­ions showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed, causing the vehicle to swerve abruptly, overturn and catch fire.

Recently, an Emirati woman in her thirties sustained moderate injuries when a heavy-duty truck overturned and hit a vehicle she was in at Sakamkam Roundabout in Fujairah City.

Police, the accident took place at the end of Yabsa Bypass Road connecting Sheikh Maktoum Street and Fujairah Port Street on Saturday. A heavy-duty truck heading to the Fujairah Port overturned and hit the Emirati woman’s vehicle, he said, adding that both the Emirati woman and the truck driver sustained moderate injuries and were admited to Fujairah Hospital for medical treatment.

Recently, a five-year-old student was killed ater he was run over in front of his school building in the Al Sharia suburb in Fujairah.

Accordingt­ocolonelsa­lehaldhanh­ani,director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Fujairah Police, the accident took place around 7:30am when a man dropped his son identified as ASA opposite the private school where he was studying.

As he was about to cross the road towards the school door, the child was run over by a car driven by an Arab national.

The child was rushed to the Fujairah Hospital but succumbed to his serious injuries an hour and a half later, Al Dhanhani said.

The unfortunat­e accident took place mainly due to negligence on the part of both the parent and the driver, Al Dhanhani added, calling on parents to pay due atention to protect their children and follow the observed safety requiremen­ts when entering and leaving schools.
