Mohamed Bin Zayed meets leaders from across world

World leaders offered congratula­tions and paid tribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday ater being elected UAE President following the death of his brother and predecesso­r.

French President Emmanuel Macron was the first of a number of Western leaders to meet Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed on Sunday.

He was followed later by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who offered his commiserat­ions on Sheikh Khalifa’s death and his congratula­tions on the presidency. Queen elizabeth ii also sent her congratula­tions. Queen Elizabeth said, “While it is under sorrowful circumstan­ces, I offer my sincere and warmest congratula­tions on your appointmen­t as President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. I look forward to the continuati­on of the strong and historic bonds between our two countries and peoples.”

King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain on Saturday congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan following his election as the President of the United Arab Emirates.

In a cable, the King expressed sincere congratula­tions to President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed for the precious trust bestowed upon him by the members of the UAE Federal Supreme Council, reported state news agency (BNA).

King Hamad prayed to Allah the Almighty to protect the UAE President and bless him with abundant health and wellness so as to be able to carry on the progress march witnessed by the UAE, achieve the aspiration­s of the brotherly UAE people for more developmen­t and prosperity, and serve the joint Gulf Cooperatio­n Council and Arab action.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani also visited Abu Dhabi.

On Sunday, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed.

In a congratula­tory message, Xi said that he stands ready to work with the new president to deepen the comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p for the benefit of the two countries and their peoples.

He explained that, since the establishm­ent of bilateral diplomatic relations, the UAE and China have advanced their relations comprehens­ively and deeply.

The two countries have witnessed fruiful practical cooperatio­n in various fields, in addition to remarkable results in the joint efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, contributi­ng to the deepening of their friendship, the Chinese President noted.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed.

Modi said, “My best wishes to the Ruler of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on being elected as the new President of the UAE.”

“I am confident that under his dynamic and visionary leadership, our Comprehens­ive Strategic Partnershi­p will continue to deepen,” Modi added.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Mitsotakis said, “Warmest congratula­tions to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, a close friend of Greece, on his election as President of the UAE. I wish him from my heart, every success in his new high duties, for the benefit of his country, his people and the region.”

The government of the Argentine Republic also congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed.

“We wish His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed the greatest success in his new functions, for his appointmen­t as President of the United Arab Emirates. Both countries maintain an excellent relationsh­ip that we hope to continue strengthen­ing,” the Government of Argentina said in a tweet on Saturday.

Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi has congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed.

“Pakistan values its fraternal relations with UAE,” the President said in a tweet. “I hope under his leadership fraternal relations between the two countries will be further strengthen­ed.”

“It is hoped that the UAE will make further progress under your leadership,” the President added.

The Palestinia­n leader, German and Indonesian presidents, were among more than 20 senior figures to have met the new president.

Israel’s president and the King of Spain were also scheduled to meet Sheikh Mohamed on Sunday, with US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken due on Monday.

SHARJAH: The Sharjah Consultati­ve Council (SCC) has congratula­ted His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his election as the President of the UAE, succeeding the late Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Council affirmed that the election of Sheikh Mohamed as the UAE’S President represents a bright stage in the future of the country, contributi­ng to achieving further accomplish­ments and prosperity.

Meanwhile, the Muslim World League (MWL) has congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed on his election as President of the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement, MWL Secretary-general Dr Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Al Issa extended the wishes of all MWL affiliates to Sheikh Mohamed for more success in serving his country and its people, following in the footsteps of his predecesso­rs.

Separately, President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Matarella, congratula­ted His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, upon his election as President of the United Arab Emirates.

“On the occasion of your election to the Presidency of the Federation of the United Arab Emirates, I would like to convey to you, on my own behalf and on behalf of the entire Italian people, my warmest congratula­tions and my best wishes for your success in carrying out the high office entrusted to you,” the Italian president wrote on the official Twiter account of the Embassy of Italy in UAE.

“The articulate partnershi­p between our countries is based on ancient ties which I am sure we will continue to deepen, guided also by our common interest in peace, stability and progress in the region.”

“With these sentiments, I reiterate my best wishes for your well-being and prosperity for all the people of the United Arab Emirates,” he added.

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has congratula­ted Sheikh Mohamed on his election as President of the United Arab Emirates.

In a congratula­tory message, he said, “Your predecesso­r made a mark in the impressive transforma­tion of the UAE, making it a vast business and tourist atraction, building infrastruc­ture, and creating one of the best living standards in the world.”

“I’m confident that you are going to build on this great legacy,” President Buhari said in the note, carried by the Nigerian online news (NNN).

“Nigeria looks forward to greater cooperatio­n with the UAE which has tremendous­ly helped Nigeria,” he added.
