SCCI to strengthen its capacity to serve the business community

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), has hosted a workshop on the Business Continuity Management System (ISO 22301) to strengthen the chamber’s capacity to serve the business community in emergencie­s.

Organised by the SCCI’S Strategy and Institutio­nal Excellence Office, the workshop was atended by HE Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General of the SCCI, in addition to senior directors of department­s, as well as SCCI personnel.

The workshop was presented by Maryam Ahmed Al Ali, Director of SCCI Strategy and Institutio­nal Excellence Office, and Mahmoud Al Anati, a specialist in institutio­nal excellence and strategic planning.

The gathering reviewed the mechanism for developing a business continuity plan and highlighte­d the potential scenarios and risks that might result in service disruption.

Al Awadi stressed that the workshop comes in line with the SCCI’S strategy and plans to address future challenges and ensure that the chamber is always prepared to offer the entire range of services to the emirate’s business community at all times, including in times of emergencie­s and crises.

“The SCCI is commited to fostering institutio­nal excellence and adopting a practical approach to enhance the performanc­e of its staff. The workshop is not only intended to improve the occupation­al performanc­e of our employees but also to achieve the chamber’s strategic goals, which include developing competent and highly experience­d national cadres that can effectivel­y contribute to taking the chamber to new heights of quality and excellence,” Al Awadi said.

For her part, Maryam Al Ali clarified that the implementa­tion of the Business Continuity Management System standards will improve the SCCI’S capacity to fulfil its obligation­s toward Sharjah’s private sector, while also helping the chamber achieve its strategic goals of promoting performanc­e, upgrading the level of service delivery, and ensuring its continuity at all times.

“The workshop has provided a comprehens­ive understand­ing of how to prioritize services provided and carry out operations during crises while satisfying relevant authoritie­s. It was also meant to highlight necessary measures and procedures required to confront challenges in order to reduce operationa­l costs,” Al Ali said.

Meanwhile the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has on Sunday made a number of recommenda­tions to strengthen the emirate’s public-privatepar­tnerships,followingt­hecabinet’s recently approved decision to issue a federal law regulating partnershi­ps between the federal authoritie­s and the private sector in the UAE.

During its regular meeting held at the SCCI’S headquarte­rs, the board of directors has ordered necessary arrangemen­ts to be put in place to fuel public-private sector partnershi­ps, promote various business sectors in Sharjah, stimulate and atract further investment­s to the Emirate.

Chaired by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, the meeting was atended by Sheikh Majid Bin Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Khalid Al Qasimi, First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber, and Waleed Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, SCCI, as well as other board members and Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, SCCI’S Director-general.

Al Owais stressed the importance of the private sector, saying i has always been a key tenet of Sharjah’s and the UAE’S comprehens­ive developmen­t journey. “The issuance of a federal law regulating the partnershi­p between the federal authoritie­s and the private sector will certainly bring about positive outcomes that will not only promote Sharjah’s sustainabl­e developmen­t but also accelerate growth rates in many sectors of the national economy,” he added.

Al Owais emphasised that the chamber is commited to fostering an integrated business environmen­t that stimulates and advances public-private sector partnershi­ps.

“The SCCI takes great interest in representi­ng the business community in the best way possible, while also encouragin­g it to enter into comprehens­ive developmen­t and economic partnershi­ps that enhance Sharjah’s economy and contribute to realising some of the major objectives of Sharjah’s and the UAE’S developmen­t plans,” he stated.

For his part, Al Awadi noted that the Chamber, through its sectoral business groups, is making every effort to reinforce mutual cooperatio­n between the business and public sector to help them overcome any possible obstacles while also taking advantage of available opportunit­ies.

“Their constructi­ve collaborat­ion will undoubtedl­y yield in an integrated infrastruc­ture and new opportunit­ies that; in addition to satisfying the demands and ambitions of the various economic sectors, will promote the sustained growth of the emirate,” Al Awadi said.

During the meeting, the SCCI’S board of directors reviewed a number of indicators related to the private sector in Sharjah and recommende­d launching additional initiative­s to boost economic progress and improve the sustainabl­e performanc­e of the private sector.
